FYI

Going is soft ( pen 27 ) with more rain on its way seemingly.

So we will most likely have one of the usual jhb start stop meetings where we lose money on overseas racing during the 2 hour rain delay

Yip, more rain not unlikely - so take that into account - thoughts:

R1: Difficult opener to the BP - not a lot between Karvani and Successful Ruler in their debuts - where they started at 50/1 and 22/1 respectively, so not a lot of confidence; first-timer Boston Light is out a very fast sprinting mare Alboran Sea, and would not have to be that good to beat this lot - no 1 draw may be a problem; Harry's Secret is finding betting support and with Khumalo riding, I think they are expecting a bold showing, while Rock the Kazvar is seemingly not really fancied on his return to the track after more than a year off

R2: I do fancy Malvern, has gone off form when the stable had a virus problem, but boasts a close 3rd to Feature-race winner Zimbaba, so for me looks hard to beat; Kissing Booth should improve on her debut and could be 2nd best with Right Choice in 3rd

R3: Only 5 runners; should lie between the very quick Valyrian King and Spring Break which probably will be trying to run that one down; I do prefer Spring Break with the going on the soft side; Garden Party should hold Varina for 3rd

R4: Another small but competitive field; Lily Blue all the rage, but at the weights I think both Rouge Allure and Shivers can make her run - over the 2000 though, Lily Blue does still seem the more likely winner (if she handles the soft ground); with the allowance (and the soft going) Smoking Hot must have chance as well

R5: Competitive handicap; on a line through Second Base, and on the run behind Shah Akbar, Atomic Blonde looks way over-priced, but has not run in the soft yet, so who knows ? Our Coys has never run out of the top 4 in 7 tries on soft ground, so must be considered; Sell High boasts the same sort of stats on soft ground (has not run worst that 3rd in 3 tries), so another that can't be ignored; all the others (bar maybe Cash Time) hold some sort of chance as well

R6: Trappy contest; Classified Stakes, where as per usual the females find themselves best in, but this does look very open; Plum Field consistently placed, but the 1500 may be touch sharp; Khumalo takes the ride on Opening Gambit, while the stable mate may be better than her last run - I'm loading up

R7: Another Classified Stakes, but looks less competitive than the previous race; I think it lies between Swiss Bank, Un Deux Trois and Soul of Wit - not sure which order though

R8: Another real trappy race to finish; Speechmaker has been running thereabouts; has an inside draw though and has never run in the soft; Midnight Caller has won in soft conditions, so may be the right one here; Afriel has had a few good runs, but also is drawn on the inside and has never run in the soft; Khumalo has taken the ride on Segontium - has the steels on, but has dropped from a 89 to his current mark of 62 - who knows - could be the upset

Enjoy B)

I took 8/1 on Rock the kazvar, i remember first time out they said will need the run and there was money for him, ran a cracker, looks a stunning horse, second time out there was a vet reason, then got gelded. If fit i think can win this as he nearly won first time out.If not today i think he will win soon

Not too many thoughts on a difficult card

I made Kissing Booth a good thing, but look at that drift. Usually when the Tarry horses drift like that they run nowhere

Rouge Allure can beat Lily today

Afriel to make us happy in the last

Not sure how Striker will do after honeymoon/holiday, but never leave him out of bigger exotics

Have fun all

Guys I have asked this question before:

Is there something amiss with the Tarry yard and Lyle Hewitson?
