Pseudonyms
4 years 3 months ago
One of my favourite topics. Chatting to role player's in racing and many have indicated that if they were dealing with real names and not people hiding behind pseudonyms, they would be far more likely to respond and contribute. I know I would far rather know who I am responding to.

That’s a tactic they use to avoid not having to answer any questions or allegations,as we have seen in sporting post role players hardly respond to anything.

Online forums have always used Aliases
Also i would not recommend that in these times that anyone posts on a gambling related site using their real names, if they don`t want the world to know they gamble
Employers check names on Google (had many requests for members to delete accounts and start fresh due to this)
Tinder dates check names on Google
Also there is no way to stop people using "Made up real names" like they do on other websites.

Craig its great that you have always been open and always taken part on this platform. Its only you and one or two others like Louis from time to time, and believe me we are grateful that you do.
However if im Miss T or my real name is Jim Slim how on earth does it make a difference. You still dont know me from a bar of soap. People can answer any questions or choose not to if they please. A pseudonym or proper name should make no difference..just answer the questions or agree or disagree with the poster. An honest reply is all that is required whoever asks the question.
But keep posting Craig you've always been open and honest and i for one appreciate that even though you have no idea who I am.

Craig, you come across as a nice guy, but this is a load of cr@p. Have the "role players" ever heard of anonymous hot lines? REAL leaders will love to get feedback on their business, irrespective of where or who it comes from. They should have mechanisms in place to sift out the wheat from the chaff.
However, their response is not surprising though.

ABC has a well managed pinned topic WHO ARE U.
public figures/subject matter experts in any field, posting on a BB is generally a lose lose proposition. someone is bound to disagree or challenge ur statement.
Hence having a strong admin BOB is very important to the success or failure of a BB.
Pseudonyms are critical to successful bulletin boards.
The term ‘pseudonym’, meaning ‘false name’, dates back to the era of the printing press,
as pseudonymity became a way for authors to make decisions about how their texts would be known. On iterations of social media, from bulletin boards to chat rooms to Facebook, pseudonyms are an important part of identity work, which is the process of creating and contextualising a self through actions and representations. Although the early 2010s saw a rise in what Bernie Hogan calls the ‘real-name web’, as a number of platforms demanded that people use their real names, pseudonymity remains a key practice within social media.
Sociologist Gary Marx (1999) identifies several rationales for being anonymous, including self-protection, risk-taking, enhancing games and play, encouraging reporting and information-seeking, and emphasising the content of a message rather than its author. But despite the advantages of letting people choose their own names, anonymity is also complex, contested, and constantly under threat.

Just a question, are there names attached to all the tickets making up the millions in tote pools that are supporting racing, and paying the wages of all the "role players" in the industry?

IMHO I believe that if it is just general tipping, joking etc then pseudonyms are fine but when you start making accusations, claims, nasty unsubstantiated comments etc then have the balls to put your name to these comments etc. Don't hide behind your keyboard. If you going to write it you must be able to stand by your statement and prove it if need be.
