TURFFONTEIN INSIDE THURSDAY MARCH 11 FORMGUIDES, SELECTIONS, PERMUTATIONS
by David Thiselton
RACE 1: Preview: LUCY IN THE SKY (1) has a tricky draw but has the form to go close. RUBY WOO (2) has shown some ability and has a fair draw. SEA ISLAND (4) is drawn in pole and should make a bold bid with Sam Mosia aboard. (David Thiselton 1-2-4)
RACE 2: Preview: SAVAGE LOVE (7) was running on from a tricky draw last time over 1200m and from a plum draw over this more suitable trip she could reverse form with Freedom Of Choice. FREEDOM OF CHOICE (2) has run two fair races and is the one to beat on paper from a fair draw. MARIGOLD HOTEL (4) is by Querari out of a four-time winning Tiger Ridge mare from 1000m to 1200m. COCOA HILL (1) was not disgraced over 1000m last time and this Capetown Noir filly out of a Jallad sprinter now tries further. RAIN IN HOLLAND (6) is by Duke Of Marmalade out of a British-bred mare who has produced two one-time winners to date (David Thiselton 7-2-4-1-6) .
RACE 3: Preview: FISHER KING (3) made a good debut and comes out well on formlines. NOBLE STRIKER (8 ) looks to have ability and can do better here from a good draw having been caught wide throughout on debut. COMING IN HOT (2) should be involved on form although he doesn’t have as good a draw as last time. TINDER DRY (13) was beaten five lengths by Fisher King on debut and was beaten two lengths by Coming In Hot last time and could improve but has a tough draw. GENERAL PASCHAL (5) is by Act Of War and is a half-brother to twice winner Paschals Samore. FLASHY APACHE (4) is by The Apache out of five-time winner over 1200m Flashy who has produced a two-time winner. (David Thiselton 3-8-2-5-4)
RACE 4: Preview: EXTRAVERT (11) ran a good race last time from the front when stepped down to this trip and is the one to beat from a fair draw. KATZENTHAL (7) was not disgraced against a promising sort on debut and can improve. LAZY GUY (1) is consistently placed and distance suited but does have a tough draw to overcome. NIGHT KING (8 ) is by What A Winter and is a half-brother to the like of Via Africa. JET CAT (2) beat Lazy Guy when they met over this trip but the latter has improved with blinkers. (David Thiselton 11-7-1-8-2)
RACE 5: Preview: FAST DRAW (3) enjoyed the step down to this trip last time and now has a good draw. BLUE SPARK (2) is capable of going close from a fair draw over an ideal course and distance. AMBERGLO STAR (6) is also distance suited and is capable of running on so can overcome a tricky draw. (David Thiselton 3-2-6)
RACE 6: Preview: LA LUVIA (2) beat a good field last time from draw three and the same 1,5kg claimer up she can repeat the dose. PUERTO MANZANO (1) is a long-striding sort who should be improving all the time and although she would prefer the Standside track this is a small field so she might be able to overtake them all after likely being dropped out from a wide draw. ROCK YOU (4) has a good draw and should be running on over an ideal trip. (David Thiselton 2-1-4)
RACE 7: Preview: FLORENTINE (6) has a huge reputation and can be forgiven her defeat on debut as it was at the expense of the classy Sweet Future so she can follow up first time out the maidens over a trip which should suit. ZIMBABA (2) was probably undone by a low draw over 1100m down the straight last time and should appreciate the step up in trip being by Legislate out of an unraced daughter of Pivotal and Ipi Tombe. ECSTATIC GREEN (1) would probably prefer shorter but has not been disgraced in two tries at this trip, finishing fourth in the Grade 2 Golden Horseshoe and fourth in the Grade 3 Starling Stakes. (David Thiselton 6-2-1)
RACE 8: Preview: ENTENTE (4) is only half-a-kg under sufferance with the best weight and ability wise has the beating of this field but she tends to pull in the running although she does still find enough to have a chance of overtaking a field of this quality if dropped out from her wide draw. BITTER WIND (9), who is the joint best weighted, has been ineffective down the straight since her maiden win in which she led and quickened well around the turn over 1600m so she might fire again going around the turn again from a similar draw to her winning one. SPEECHMAKER (10) usually runs on well over shorter so is interesting tried again over this trip although she has a tough draw to overcome. MILAN’S PRINCESS (3) is the joint best weighted and was staying on over 1200m last time in her first run out of the maidens although she has a tricky draw and has not raced for 112 days. ANATURA (11) is capable of running on over this trip so should be thereabouts from a good draw. COMET CRYSTAL (12) has a tough draw but can run on and can’t be ignored. WILLO’THEWHISP (7) has to be included from his good draw on his last run. LOUIS THE SEVENTH (5) is also capable of running on and could be involved if it pans out well from a tough draw. (David Thiselton 4-9-10-3-11-12-7-5)

Some to consider...
Race 5 - 4 Light Warrior
Race 6 - 2 La Luvia, 6 Shadow Creek
All the best to all Clanners for today...stay safe and healthy...
Many set weight races...seems to be the norm in Gauteng...

Interesting meeting for a Thursday - thoughts:
R1: Lucy in the Sky improving, but has a tricky draw, so could have her work cut out to run down Sea Island, who seem to hate wet going and probably needed her last run - has pole position today so could prove hard to catch in a weakish field; only other one that caught my eye, is Sudden Break, who also has a nice draw and did not finish too far behind Lucy on their runs to Queen Jay and Jam Fancy - so can run into 3rd here
R2: First time this season that the juveniles are stretched over a bit of ground, so not easy to predict; Freedom of Choice had Savage Love behind her last time, but SL ran on the better, so may challenge FoC here; Marigold Hotel is seemingly preferred of the Tarry runners, but the betting may change come race time
R3: Another juvenile contest for mostly males - Tinder Dry tries her luck against the males again - given the draw I'm not sure why she does not rather take on her own sex, as both Coming in Hot and Fisher King hold her on form and both should appreciate the step up in trip- not easy to split those 2 - while Transvision Vamp may improve from a good draw
R4: Not easy to predict; depends on how good Night King is; Kazenthal made a fair debut behind the de Kock inmate Al Sakeet, so betting closer to race-time should prove a guide; on in-direct form behind Rock the Kazvar there does not seem to be a lot between Kazenthal and Lazy Guy, but K has the benefit of pole position while LG is draw a little wide; others to consider include Jet Cat and Extravert, while Cosmic Ray probably needed her last start, but has some fair form this track and trip and could upset from a good draw
R5: Another competitive Maiden, but this is a Handicap so the filly Pin It at the bottom of the weights could surprise from a good draw if a tongue-tie has the desired effect; none of the others in the betting can be ignored.
R6: Graduation Handicap which basically means a handicap for 1 & 2 time winners; being a handicap I think that Puerto Manzano is much too short in the betting, especially at this track; La Luvia I think will improve on her last run and boasts an 8 length finish behind Captain's Ransom in the Cape Fillies Guineas, so could take a lot of beating here; Master Supreme is coming down a bit in the ratings, and with Rock You and the hat-trick seeking Shadow Creek all have chances if La Luvia goes flat in her 2nd run after returning from the Cape
R7: The return of Florentine in a Grad Plate for Fillies and Mares - on official ratings she has something to find, but she is quite likely still way ahead of the handicapper and should take some beating here; Ecstatic Green and Zimbaba also look very capable, but will probably find it hard to concede weight to Florentine
R8: A minefield to finish; Afternoon Tea has been a big disappointment recently after some very useful runs earlier; if she comes back to even close to her earlier form, she would take some beating here, so definite inclusion for me; Anatura I believe does not get further than 1600 and reverting back to the track where she won her only race, could feature from a good draw; Entente is back in form and it would be foolish to ignore her even from a poorish draw
Enjoy

@Bob...found a way to analyse handicap races and sticking to it as this has been good to me the last few weeks...only two handicap races today (one a maiden handicap and the other has a short priced favourite in a graduation handicap)...so not much interest from me and I posted early...
By the way, saw one of your posts at about 3 this morning...sun rose very early where you are !!??

All the best to all Clanners for today...

Watching trainer Fanie Bronkhorst's results I think he's going to do well as a trainer.
