Jockeys Commission

Just saw this on Freeracer: List of jockeys charging 10%; some of the names really laughable imo and will surely not sit on any horse of mine if I have my way (Corne Orffer, Francois Naude, Piet Botha, Marco van Rensburg, Randall Simons, Muzi Yeni). Only ones who I personally consider good enough to charge the extra are Delpech, Fayd'Herbe, Khan, Lloyd, Marcus, Marwing, Schofield and Strydom

AB, I think I am right in saying that in most case the trainer engages the jock; I wonder how many owners actually know what the jocks are charging

I think it may be less than you think; for example until last week both myself and Elvis were unaware that Mienie charges 10%; perhaps other owners can indicate whether they know or not?

As an owner I have sent this list to my trainer & advised him that I do not want to use any of the jockeys charging 10%. There are a number of competent riders who are NOT charging 10%, namely A Fortune, I Sturgeon, R Danielson, B Lerena, MJ Byleveld, etc. I have had Muzi riding for me, but unfortuneately for him he will no longer be on any of my runners!

As a ex-owner of 2 horses, I was shocked to hear that these little cheaters want more money? I agree, if it was up to me ,I would use jocks that try thier haerts out and are not in it to milk owners. My question is, who decides the new commissions? Do the jocks decide or is it done through the jockey club? I just think that if there is now control, what stops them from asking more?
