How will racing survive? The pools are stinking!

How will racing survive?
Have you seen the pools?
Why not do away with the Bi Pots and the 11 Jackpots a day and focus on the PA , P6 and Jackpot
And try and get some interest going again.
Don’t say there’s no money out there the Soccer 10 pools are 1-2 million daily
Any thoughts?

Well I thought the pools today for a normal mid-week meeting are not that bad - BP 258k, PA 502k, PS 1Mil + and JP1 394k (probably disappointing)
But personally I would not miss the Quickmixes

I have a feeling the pools are generally down, I would love to see a comparison between pools vs stakes 2021 vs 2018?

Check the place payouts in the 2nd no 10 and 11. The swinger paid R8 on the tote back in the days with such place payouts that swinger would have paid 15 to 18 a pop

Exactly my point 12% of the pools go to stakes pot and that’s being generous
How will this ever be enough for racing to be successful?

Don’t forget that the takeouts from tote’s football pools also go to the stakes pot. So, football pools can be seen to be a good thing.

Poor management, poor treatment of the "customer" and a lack of innovation have all lead to shrinking pools and disappearing customers.
A shrinking customer base in turn leads to stagnant and even reduced stakes.
It's a cycle that's will end with horseracing becoming irrelevant and unsustainable in its current form. The number of horseracing punters in years to come will drop off a cliff.
Whatever is happening now, raciing management wise, appears to be behind closed doors and under a veil of secrecy. This is a last ditch attempt to salvage what's left, once again, with no consultation or concern for the "customer".
Given that so many did so little for so long, and allowed racing to decline to the state it is at now., why should any loyalty or support be expected from anyone?
Especially "the customer", who has always been regarded as a non entity.

The race card needs to bring backappeal to patrons.
Back in the day the early races were either Juveniles or Maiden Plates.
As the day progressed the Novice Plates, Graduation Plates, D division,
C division, B division ended in either an A division or a Feature race as the main fare.
Although not possible today, but each racing club pulled out the stops to give the patrons an enjoyable experience at the races.
Now with the expansion of the " Turf
Accountants ", unfortunately more money is moved away from the Tote and with increased take outs ultimately it's the pools, payouts and stakes that start dwindling.

On the contrary, if bookies like HW and WSB etc hadn't come along to fill in the gaping holes in service and innovation, racing may have been on life support already.
Imagine if it was just the filthy totes and telelebetting being the only option available. There would be just a handful of die hard punters supporting the tote.
Kind of reminds one of the SA post office!!, did nothing for so long, waited for everyone else to fill in the gaps and offer world class services, then cry foul while on life support.

.
Strangely enough the die-hard punters endured the conditions in the Totes back in the day.
For example in the city centre in Durban if you walked into the Tote in Queens Street on any given day, it was packed to the rafters.
Probably because over 75 percent of patrons were African?
Today there's more staff than punters from the African populace unfortunately.
Even with higher earnings, they've lost interest in the game.......it seems.
The challenge is now to take "The Game " to the masses and bring them back.
