Weekend Options.

Good morning all and hope you have your ticket for a Covid jab?

Let’s be honest, our powers that be could not organize “a piss up in a brewery “ and another embarrassment with chaos and confusion rife.
If we add the Zuma, Ace etc. to the political circus, plenty fun and games with our born leaders.

Let’s talk about a happy subjects as far as our racing future.
We have had some positive announcements in the last week, breakthrough with HRA and HKJC arrangement, something that has been discussed for ages and never anything actually done. So congrats to Susan Rowett and thanks to the Honk Kong Jockey Club.
Plus we have an option to play into massive tote pools for the Greyville meeting on Sat 29th May. ( I am sure it’s rand/rand with no conversion implications)?
In addition Hollywood have added a TabGold option for punters that want to play directly into the Tote to help the stakes pot, hopefully a similar option can be arranged for Phumelela/ 4RACING, not sure who is making the calls?

The big news on a personal note, is that our kids have arranged a family get away in Port St Johns.
We will also have the 3 grandkids together for the first time with Nana and Grandad as we missed Xmas due to Covid.
My concern is that I have been having these vivid dreams that an old folks home is part of a master plan?
Basically there is only one return ticket for Mrs S and Scotia gets booked into a type of Hotel California “you can check out anytime you want, but you can never leave”
It has no WiFi to have a punt and the nearest bottle store is 20 klms by foot.
The only positive was that I was able to talk to Jack Nicholson’s in the flesh.

Back to Punting options over the weekend.
Today is WSB EC Derby with some special offers from the bookmaker giant.
Sweet the Sound and World Radar look the obvious bankers at Fairview.

It’s Turffontein on Sat. Where I was very impressed with the stunning looking 2yr old Iron Will in the second race.
Cartel Boss makes it a pick 5 considering that the only opposition are first timers.

Greyville on Sunday for some great racing.
I feel sorry for the Peters family after just mastering Shampompo Shampizi, they now have to get their minds around IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA.
Do it Again should be a banker, however I find myself with a decent punt on Sovereign Spirit at 66/1 ew for the July, thanks to Frodo, and will be looking for a decent run.
Lady of Steel looks a banker, Belgarion is beatable at this stage having a July prep.

The interest in the July never appears to fade with numerous discussions, drama and varied views with regards to South Africa’s premier race.

We have some great racing these days from the UK and our Ryan Moore thread getting plenty exposure considering we post info straight from the jockey.
He is still showing well over 500 quid profit from a 10 quid level stake.

Newmarket today where Derab a banker, York where the race of the day is race 4, maybe stick with Ryan on Santiago to beat Sir Ron Priestley and Nayef Road.

Saturday highlight will be watching Palace Pier at Newbury and it’s difficult to oppose Frankie and 8/10 ish is a must.
Also running on Sat are Tactical vs Creative Force and Al Aasy vs Logician.
Plus looking forward it would be wonderful to see Hawwaam taking on the mighty Palace Pier on Tuesday the 15th June at Ascot, a very rough indicator is 5/2 PP and 25/1 HW .

You will be glad to hear that Humble Tune is having a few weeks break and will hopefully be back to fight another day.

Hope you all have a great weekend and

May your God be with you

Good Punting.

Just a note on Sovereign Spirit - I see WSB is offering 6/1 for 6 places (although this is not mentioned on the ticket) - at HW they are only offering 4/1 for 6 places.

I have the following Place bets going with WSB:

Odds 132/10 - bet taken on 21 April - so not sure if that would be 4 places
Odds 66/10 - bet taken on 10 May - think this would be 6 places
Odds 6/1 - bet taken on 13 May - think this would be 6 places

Would be helpful if they could show on the ticket how many places are relevant - all it shows is that the Bet Type is 'Place'

Clan, have a look at Rodiguez (drawn 2/12 @ 12 or 14/1 depending where you look), race 1, Greyville, Sunday.

If the market suggests AJ'S Captain (drawn 12/12 @ 5/2) can roll the favourite, Darjeeling (drawn 7/12 @ 3/1) because of the 3.0kg swing in the weights, then Rodriguez, also receiving 3.0kgs from Darjeeling with the most favourable draw, can get into the fray and roll both of them.

The current odds about Rodriguez is massive.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Hi Mac there was an air of doubt that Medina Spirit would not be allowed to run after its potential disqualification from the Derby.
However has been given the OK to run and is 11/8 fav.
