July weekend with a difference.
4 years 1 month ago - 4 years 1 month ago
Good morning to you all as we look forward to the Vodacom Durban July on Saturday.
Hope you are keeping well and safe from this dreaded Covid virus.
We could not get anymore help from various experts and trainers on what the outcome will be on the big day.
Pick 6 suggestions, competition etc are all threads on the site.
It’s traditional for this to be the biggest day of the year for the operators and bookmakers but realistically they have a major challenge.
I am aware that certain outlets are trying to cater for the punters but the shortfall could be drastic compared to normal.
We have a situation where the attendance would be around 50/60,000 people at the track and a decent crowd at Turffontein, if we consider that these race goers would take between R500 to R1000 each to have a punt plus the private boxes and function halls where the norm would be to have a pick 6 kitty , in some cases exceeding R10 grand perms via the tote.
Most of this will be lost to on line punts via bookmakers who might have the open bet option.
I am sure a consideration would have been to move the July, however I can’t see the situation improving in the next few weeks and the wave looks like it could move to KZN soon, so I guess a postponement was not an option.
At the other end of the scale we have the Zuma saga where many will break the Covid protocol and it will be interesting how Cyril will rise to this challenge.
He has made sure that his law abiding citizens can’t even drink themselves to death during this lockdown period, so let’s see how he handles this current crises.
On a happier note Mrs S has her birthday on Sat, to clash with July and football, so we will be watching TV and a take away is the best Scotia can offer and possibly a song?
Good Punting and stay safe.

Say happy to the wife Mr Scott. Yes I think you correct in saying this lockdown will carry on for weeks again with this paloeka clowns running the show. I think if I am not mistaken we and only Greenland have booze lockdowns for off site consumption but what does the rest of the world know they must ask cyril he knows better. I think the the July will be a flop from a betting point of view but the race will be great me thinks. Have a great weekend

Thanks Dave
Don`t think we had level 4 restrictions this time last year (Might be wrong) spoke to a few folk that can`t join their friends and family for July day as it`s against LEVEL 4 REGULATIONS...
Good news that Cape Town got the go ahead to open the bookies as have KZN, so the pools might not be that far off
Listening to Ringer last night, most of the pools are made up of overseas syndicates that take out 80% of the Dividends anyway, can`t see that tbh

They obviously don't play Vaal or PE as the pools are dismal

Spot on Dave. The Pres and his merry band flounder on regardless of the consequences.
Illicit booze sales boom again for the "connected".
I heard a cargo ship grounded and 50 000 gallons of whiskey leaked into the sea. No tern was left unstoned.
I am looking forward to some cracking racing and hopefully scooping the competitions.
Best wishes to Mrs S. My better half has her birthday tomorrow. 48 years of bliss together.
Strength to the Clan and stay safe.

Well not sure who managed to win the pick 6 but very well done to you.
Some great races and well done to the July winner and connections.
Very sad news for Ziets and connections they must be broken.
The tote pools appeared to be good considering the current climate.
As expected this Zuma fiasco could well get out of hand, and appears a stalemate.
After yesterday's results we can have a break with the cancelation of racing in the Cape.
Mrs S had a great birthday and was spoilt.
Good Punting
