3 years 9 months ago - 3 years 9 months ago
We done a poll on our youtube channel and are quite surprised that Greyville was the hands down winner, i personally voted for Turffontein, in fact my second vote would have went to Kenilworth and then Scottsville..
Thoughts?

Greyville although not the most picturesque course will always be most punters favourite due to the history of the July

While I can easily see Turffontein and Kenilworth ahead of Greyville, anyone putting Scottsville over Greyville may need a drug test.
Kenilworth for me, followed closely by Greyville (Turf only) and Turffies (Standside!) in 3rd.

Context matters - favorite course ito punting or favorite course ito race-course attendance ?
The Gauteng courses are my favorite by far for punting - followed by the Cape courses, Fairview and then the KZN courses
Ito race-course attendance, I do like the Cape courses, but that may be because I would mostly attend those meetings while on holiday, so the mood is better in general - I have never been to Fairview, so would like to go one day - have to say that the few times I have been to Scottsville, I found it very pleasant.

Having has no attendance during lockdown, the poll should have included all the closed courses. My favourite would definitely have been Milnerton. First course my father took me too as a 5 year old. Remembering the name William Penn. The 1400m straight. The proper guineas course. The south easter wind. So much character and so many memories having been around the country, even the old Bloemfontein course in the eighties.

The rumours of the Vaal closing and just being a training track won`t hurt many racing fans then

Any course closure is another sad day in the proud history of sa horseracing , racing sadly is on a downward spiral and closing the Vaal is not gonna help imvho
