Def KZN, the moment you try to win a race they will fine you for overdoing it

read the stipes for Sunday 24th October - it is amazing how many questions they are begining to ask - good work Kzn Stipes
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) KAPEN PRIDE (K de Melo) was unable to secure clear running in the straight.
b) In view of the performances of DON’T TOUCH ME (*T Gumede) (3.60 lengths, 6/1 in the betting) and PREDATOR (M Yeni) (4.00 lengths, 8/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
c) Leaving the 300m, IBUTHO (B Jacobson) shifted out to continue its run and thereafter this gelding, which finished its race off strongly, was hanging in, in the concluding stages. Jockey B Jacobson appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding : 1. his decision to change tactics and drop IBUTHO in from its deep draw in comparison to its usually handy racing pattern, 2. the urgency whilst riding this gelding between the 400m and 250m and 3. his decision not to take the available run between PREDATOR (M Yeni) and COMMAND CONTROL (D Dillon) at the 300m. In this regard, Jockey B Jacobson explained to the Board that :-
1. Change of tactics
His instruction was to drop this gelding in from a deep draw.
2. Urgency between the 400m and 250m
When he rides this gelding at work, he learned that this horse runs its best when allowed to quicken under the hands, build into the race and then produce its final finishing burst.
Consequently, in this race, he elected to ride IBUTHO as he does in work which resulted in, in his opinion, the improved performance of this gelding today.
3. Decision not to take the run between PREDATOR (M Yeni) and COMMAND CONTROL (D Dillon) at the 300m
He anticipated Jockey M Yeni moving out and the gap closing. He further explained that he was particularly mindful of obtaining a clear run where he had no danger of being inconvenienced in the running as, this gelding does quicken when allowed to build and if inconvenienced, it struggles to regain its momentum.
Assistant Trainer K Wright appeared before the Board and confirmed Jockey B Jacobson’s feedback to the Board as stated above.
The Board noted the explanation of Assistant Trainer K Wright and Jockey B Jacobson, however, advised both parties that should they elect to change tactics on any of their runners, the Stipendiary Board must be advised prior to the running of the race.
d) COMMAND CONTROL (D Dillon), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Austin acting on behalf of Trainer S W Humby advised (ML).

What I find amusing is that you see strange looking rides everyday but only selected riders and trainers get singled out , some things will never change in sa horseracing

Agree...there seems to be airtime just to make it look like something is happening but it the things that they choose not to pick up and follow through that is indicative of their competence...

Jacobson has maybe 3 mounts per week and one of his gets airtime...there are jockeys with 20+ mounts per week and more than 3 of those are questionable but we hear nothing but crickets...

Sad...

I believe the KZN stipes show no bias
from the same report from Sunday

b) At the 1200m, TOP HONOURS (L Mohapi) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the inside of ONE BITE AT A TIME (A Marcus) which was ridden forward in order to secure the lead and the rail.
Jockey A Marcus appeared before the Board with regard to the above incident and was advised that when he rides his mounts in a similar manner in future, he must ensure that he carries sufficient speed in order to cross the field without causing any inconvenience to other runners

b) Jockey A Marcus appeared before the Board and was afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which in his opinion contributed to the poor performance of BLUSH OF DAWN. In this regard, he explained to the Board that, BLUSH OF DAWN had not shown the early speed he had anticipated. However, after being well positioned and travelling well enough in the middle stages of the race, when he asked this mare to finish its race off entering the straight, it had nothing to come. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey A Marcus. In view of the performance of BLUSH OF DAWN, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer G B Puller will be advised to report back on the condition of this mare on return to stables.

Jockey S Veale appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the above incident. Jockey S Veale explained that, LUNARCAM had refused to settle, taken a hold of the bit and shifted out despite his attempts to settle this gelding in behind runners. When questioned regarding whether this gelding required a change of equipment in order to improve its racing manners, he explained to the Board that, he had provided such feedback to Assistant Trainer S Ferrie, however, this was an inexperienced horse having only its second run at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Assistant S Ferrie acting on behalf of Trainer D Drier appeared before the Board and confirmed the above feedback from Jockey S Veale and was of the view that this gelding would improve with racing and possibly down the straight but undertook to the Board that if needed he would assess the appropriateness of an equipment change in work. The Board noted and accepted the explanations from Jockey S Veale and Assistant Trainer S Ferrie. In view of the behaviour of LUNARCAM (S Veale) (2.25 lengths, 83/100 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.

b) Jockey M Yeni (QAARAAT) appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the non-vigorous nature of his ride between the 350m and 200m. In this regard, he explained that, after being restless in the stalls, this filly was able to secure a good position one out one back in the running. When he entered the straight, he afforded QAARAAT an opportunity to balance as this is a horse that gets unbalanced easily. However, as he was asking QAARAAT to finish its race off strongly at the 300m, this filly changed legs and had in his view, required time to regain balance which resulted in his riding appearing less vigorous. He was further of the view that QAARAAT hesitated on at least two occasions to take the run between PERSPICUOUS (*T Gumede) and CASA ROSADA (J Gates). However, thereafter, having been directed to the outside of CASA ROSADA (J Gates), it ran on steadily. Additionally, it was Jockey M Yeni’s view that this filly may appreciate further and had accordingly, provided such feedback to Trainer A Wright. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey M Yeni. In view of the performance of QAARAAT (M Yeni) (4.60 lengths, 13/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine

Eastern Cape stipes should be questioning the jocks similar to the KZN stipes. IMO at Fairview there seem to be some questionable riding.

Fairview Race 5, can't wait to see the stipes report.
Greeff stable wins with Lucy Belle 50/1 and his favourite Respectable Miss (Greg Cheyne) runs 2nd with a soft ride imo.

The World class stipes at Fairview might give us some insight has to what happend.
