Snaith-Fourie: Boxing On
Reduced riding engagaments in Cape tells a story...
Talk of a split or ‘cooling off’ in the longstanding and massively successful association between newly-crowned SA Champion Trainer Justin Snaith and top jockey Richard Fourie have been doing the rounds for over a week now.
The Sporting Post has received numerous questions from readers as the horseracing rumour mill inevitably generates various conspiracy theories on an almost daily basis.
At a glance, the reality of the top team’s Cape riding engagements certainly tells something of a story.
At Kenilworth on Tuesday, Fourie only rides for the powerful yard in two of six races contested by their ten runners on the day.
On this coming Saturday, only one of Fourie’s six Kenilworth rides is for Snaith.
On Friday at Fairview, all of Snaith’s four runners will be ridden by Fourie.
A spokesman for the stable told the Sporting Post in a short response to a question put to them on Monday whether it was correct that the combination were splitting, was that they were ‘still using him a lot’.
“He is riding everything at Fairview on Friday. He is a top jockey,” he added.
Last season Fourie rode 103 winners for Snaith at a strike-rate of 19,04%.
On Saturday, Intrepid was his 30th winner for the family operation this term – their strike rate is currently just over 21%.
The Jonsson Workwear sponsored Fourie has ridden 58 winners in total this season and is presently at fourth position on the national log.
He could not be reached for comment.

I am sure Friday scratchings were due to possible groom disruption.

He is genuinely not well,he had a bad reaction to the vaccine.
Never mind that did you hear Snaith in his interview with Fee Ramsden when she was asking him about his runners on the day,he said " I MUST CONFESS WHEN I GOT TO RACES I DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE RACING ON THE SUMMER COURSE" surely a top trainer (or any trainer for that matter) knows what course they're racing on before he does Noms.

From Eric Sands Racing,
Rainbow Bridge galloped at Kenilworth over 1400m on Wednesday. Richard Fourie rode him, who will be his regular pilot going forward. He was very happy with the gallop.
I know his heart recovery rate was still a little on the higher side, and still needs trim up some more.
Although he won’t be at his peak for the Greenpoint Stakes next Saturday, he will as always be competitive.
- Eric
If Jonsson has horses in the features will Fourie not ride them? Jet Dark will line up in the same races as Rainbow Bridge. Do It Again is also part owned by Jonsson but is more likely go for the winter season. Fourie was the orginal rider of Rainbow Bridge in his first couple of starts.

Maybe Richard should leave the Beach Boys and head up North and join Sean Tarry, that would be interesting.

Not sure he will ever find another trainer that can consistently give him winners every meeting.

Full book of rides next 2 Cape meetings.
On some of Snaith’s horses as well.
Khumalo is doing well without Tarry.
100% sure Fouries will do well without Snaith. Although I don’t think they will completely split.
You can never keep a good man down……..
