RACE 1: 7 LOVE ON TIME 4 FIRU STAR 10 GIAMBATTISTA 1 ALMA MATER
Preview: Many first timers so keep an eye on the betting. Of those that have run, LOVE ON TIME (7) has been a beaten favourite in all three of his starts. He has done well over course and distance and may be worth one further chance. FIRU STAR (4) found some market support on debut and showed up well. The drop in trip should suit. GIAMBATTISTA (10) raced green on debut and is sure to improve on that showing. ALMA MATER (1) has had many chances but has not been too far back at recent outings and can feature again. RACE 2: 9 LAKE COMO 1 FANTASTIC IMPACT 7 BROADWAY 3 ESTIVAL
Preview: LAKE COMO (9) has drawn wide but has shown recent improvement in cheek pieces and the extra should suit. FANTASTIC IMPACT (1) showed marked improvement last run over course and distance. He has the best of the draw and a repeat should find him in the money. BROADWAY (7) is struggling to improve but his best recent effort has been on the poly and he can feature. ESTIVAL (3) has not been too far back recently and meets a modest field. (Andrew Harrison: 9-1-7-3).

RACE 3: 6 PORT ADELAIDE 5 SPARKLING FLAME 1 ARION OF ADRAST 4 LUCK OF THE IRIS
Preview: Small field. PORT ADELAIDE (6) has shown up well in both starts since switching to the poly. Third run after a break. SPARKLING FLAME (5) is overdue. She goes well on the poly and is distance suited. May be the one to beat. ARION OF ADRAST (1) showed up well in her first start on the poly over an extended trip. She can still come on from that. LUCK OF THE IRIS (4) made major improvement last run but needs to repeat. (Andrew Harrison: 6-5-1-4).

RACE 4: 6 TIGER TANK 8 CATCH THE TUNE 1 SMART WILLIAM 7 KING’S COVE
Preview: TIGER TANK (6) has hardly missed a beat at recent starts on the poly. He goes well this trip and should be right there again. CATCH THE TUNE (8 ) just needed his last run after returning from a break. The trip will suit. SMART WILLIAM (1) was caught late in a tight finish last start. He does best on the poly and must have a decent winning chance. KING’S COVE (7) steps up in class but has a light weight and was narrowly beaten last run. (Andrew Harrison: 6-8-1-7).

RACE 5: 7 IBUTHO 1 FLYING GRACE 8 MASTER OF DESTINY 10 LIVING WATERS
Preview: Wide open. IBUTHO (7) was narrowly beaten at long odds from the widest draw last start but has been improving. He should be cherry-ripe. FLYING GRACE (1) has been consistent and with the best of the draw he should be competitive. MASTER OF DESTINY (6) has been consistent and goes well on the poly. He should be thereabouts again. LIVING WATERS (10) has a wide draw and takes on stronger but he does have a light weight and he is in good form. (Andrew Harrison: 7-1-6-10).

RACE 6: 3 SNIPER SHOT 2 BURNING WINGS 1 TREAD SWIFTLY 5 CHATTERTONS KEEPER
Preview: Small but competitive field. SNIPER SHOT (3) is battling for his next win but takes a rating drop and his best recent effort has been over course and distance. He also has a better draw this time around. BURNING WINGS (2) has been consistent and steps up in trip. He gets a strong rider aboard. TREAD SWIFTLY (1) finished strongly to get up late to win his last outing. He has a better draw here and can follow up. CHATTERTONS KEEPER (5) has come good of late having won for of his last five. He is creeping up in the handicap but has a chance again. (Andrew Harrison: 3-2-1-5).

RACE 7: 9 VOICE NOTES 3 CASA ROSADA 2 IMBEJEJE 6 KILEIGH’S FATE
Preview: VOICE NOTES (9) was close-up when taking on stronger last run. She was a comfortable winner before that and should have a big chance here. CASA ROSADA (3) was well beaten by Voice Notes last run and is now 3kg better of in the handicap. They should finish a lot closer together. IMBEJEJE (2) was a recent maiden winner first up on the poly. She is lightly raced and looks to have some scope. KILEIGH’S FATE (6) has improved again since back in blinkers. Her best recent form is over course and distance. (Andrew Harrison: 9-3-2-6).

RACE 8: 4 GIACOMO PUCCINI 8 VAR AGLOW 1 IRISH BELLE 2 KINGS ROAD
Preview: GIACOMO PUCCINI (4) has put in two smart recent efforts on the poly and should be right there again. VAR AGLOW (8 ) is holding form well and does his best on the poly. He has a light weight. IRISH BELLE (1) is back on her favourite surface and distance. She has the best of the draw and could go all the way in site of taking on males. KINGS ROAD (2) was due to run on Sunday on the turf. He does seem better on the poly and is quick. (Andrew Harrison: 4-8-1-2).

Dave, your optimism is refreshing, but races4 onwards are the usual poly handicap lotteries where upsets are the order of the day.
I am baffled that favourites can be as short as 2/1 in these races where they should be priced 5/1 and bigger the field.
