Review Kenilworth Dec 4th

What can we learn from Saturday? Bear in mind that there was a strong headwind for most of the day.
1. Fillies Guineas. Chansonette showed further improvement and won a very good race. Desert Miracle was game in defeat, and bearing in mind that she had to travel, was going left handed and into the south easter for the first time, this was a good run. Sadly, Amanzimtoti and Kailene both something amiss. Homely Girl and Mercury Rising never threatened the first two but ran on nicely to fill the quartet.
If Desert Miracle is deemed to have run to her rating of 117, then Chansonette will go to 117, and the next two to 112.
2. Green Point. A very clever ride on the winner- got to the lead, slowed it up briefly, then poached a lead of 6 lengths, and held on gamely to win. Seeking the Stars showed the benefit here of a good prep run when winning the Matchem, and a credit to his trainer. Rainbow Bridge looked to be carrying quite a bit of condition in the ring, so an excellent prep run for the QP and Met. Linebacker also a good prep run. I would use the winner as the line horse, given that the others were coming back from breaks. Jet Dark a few length adrift, and will have to step up from this effort if he is to defend his QP title. Captain Fontane ran 9 lb below the winner, so should go to 112. A very optimistic QP entry based on this effort, but not disgraced against these top sorts.
3. Southern Cross Stakes. Looked the trickiest of the features, and delivered an upset as the stable companion looked the better of the two. Vernichey still way off form. Not the strongest renewal of this event, but Santa Maria the one to watch in future sprints.
4. Summer Stayers. An impressive return to form by Chrome Yellow carrying top weight. Black Knap made the most of his pull at the weights. Crimson King looked to be traveling well enough but still a length adrift. The next three home all getting a lot of weight, but the first three all useful stayers and will no doubt meet a few time this season.
5. Pinnacle F&M. Grade 1 performers in this race, and Captain’s Ransom showed that she is again the one to beat in the fillies features this year. Princess Calla, Zarina and She’s a Keeper all showed they are on track. The Paddock Stakes is shaping up to be an absolute cracker of a race, particularly if War of Athena makes the trip as well.
6 Pinnacle 1100m. Real Gone Kid showed that he is developing into a top sprinter. Rio Querari probably needed this and remains the horse to beat in the WFA sprints. Kasimir can’t be written off yet.
7. Vercingetorix on track to be champion sire and sire of 3yos this year.
