Leo is right when saying you don't really know how strong the form of maiden plates really are.
The whole field could have been donkeys or vice versa but collateral form could help.
But remember when the work riders had a meeting and the favorites won 80 or 90% of the races, don't think one favorite ran out the top 3,and the pick 6 paid less than R1000 I think, the experts all came out and told us they where maiden plates not handicaps and that was why they managed to win so many races with the favorites.

In all honesty Durbs, there is only one thing in racing that scares me. That is when I have done my study, open the odds and find my selection is the favourite...Eish! Prefer my trainers to have full incentive...One thing I wish I had was a horse's future runs and draws etc. I often find looking at historic races, that had I known the horse was drawn 1 in the race next week around the bend, I wouldn't have taken it in the middle down a straight this week.

Punters can only take future bets if they haven't depleted their funds after one or two races...
It comes back to the form holding true...yes, animals are athletes and not machines so do have off days...but a horse not brought to course with the best opportunity to give off it's best should not be in the race...it costs too many people the little likely hard earned money they have with this being routed to those in the know who can take smaller perms (bigger percentages)...just not right...
I'd like to venture that the biggest payouts are by syndicates of persons in the know...I stand corrected...
Stay safe and healthy...

Even more so, if you're an astute form studier and think you spot a hot formline for one of the runners, and have a right go, but the trainer missed that and thinks the horse would be better suited to winning another race 3 weeks later, so just sends the horse now for a "run".
You're always handicapped in this game even if you're the smartest c* on the block by the weakest link involved.
