Re: The Vaal Tuesday, 21 December
3 years 8 months agoRace 3- Wondering Star ran a length behind Willow Lane (66)getting 2kg, and the WFA difference is 6kg. Thus ran to about 73, but weighted off 64. If it reproduces that run is the one to beat. I took some 7/2 yesterday and now 2/1.
great call...

Re: The Vaal Tuesday, 21 December
3 years 8 months agoI would love Frodo to post his outright selections.
Here goes nothing .....
R1: Only the Peter stable will know - but on the betting looks like it will be Cool Winter from Lebanese Pound
R2: Babies again, so anything possible, everyone can read the form of the raced runners
R3: Magnum PI a winner without a penalty, but this is a handicap, where as pointed out Wondering Star ran to higher than his rating against winners last time, so at the weights he is the right one; others to be considered at these weights are Chasing Maverick and Mike the Pilot (I think both better than their last efforts), JP Two Thousand and Gold Ambition
R4: A proper Maiden at set weights; not easy though as many tries this far for the first time; I think Flashy Apache on his penultimate could be worth an each-way; obvious dangers are My True North and Touched by Stars, with Gimme a Dream who could be looking for this kind of trip
R5: Scraping the barrel a bit here; not sure what happened to Tuuletar last time, looks the one to beat on her best form; perhaps Three Hills and especially the lightly raced Rattle Bag can improve
R6: Juan Carlos at the top of the boards, but I do think Fsqaudron is the one to beat with Run as One also a danger; Romeo's Magic consistent form and on his last effort to Twin Turbo could surprise at big odds
R7: I do think Platinum Sky is the right one; the van Zyl runners have been running well here, but I think 2nd best behind PS, while Monsoon Kenny is probably better than his last run in the soft and could place with Bold Resolve
R8: Bit of a minefield; I'm not sold on Life Goes On who got a 5 points whack in the handicap after winning on the Greyville Poly; so I think it lies between Midnight Badger (needs to be held up for a run), Informative, Grindelwald (blinkers back on) and After Hours, who may need further but seems most effective down the straight
Enjoy![]()

I suppose it's too much to ask Gavin to win 3 in-a-row
