What’s going on? I thought it was the Cape Season

Surely owners want their horses to run?? Unless trainers holding back runners for _____???

The program was terrible to start with. They had four 2000m and four 1600m races on the day. Which there was x2 2000m and x2 1600m fillies and mare handicaps, plus 2000m fillies and mare handicap feature race 5 days later. Most of the fillies were nominated for both races.

Surely they didn't fancy Durbanville last year as well

January Cape Town and they don’t have enough runners. Back in the day you could not get a parking on or near the course at Kenilworth and fields were huge. Milnertons car park had enough room for thousands of cars. The elite have taken over Cape racing.

Tweede nuwejaarsdag in Cape Town and traditionally the Cape Minstrels will parade the streets much like the Rio Carnival but on a smaller scale.
Whether it will be held in spite of Corona is anybody's guess but even the most hardened punter from the Flats will be giving Kenilworth a wide berth on 02/01 methinks.

I thought the new guys have got the trainers on board, this is in their season!!!

The horse population in CT has reduced dramatically over the past two years
- low stakes relative to the other main centres
- incompetent programming by the operators
- the big breeders are sending more of their horses to other centres
- the smaller trainers just don’t have the clients so over concentration in a few big yards
- the big guys have satellite yards elsewhere
- greater reluctance to push 2yos early
This season exacerbated by minimal seasonal visiting trainers. Only one or two raiders for the features, but no one has brought a string.
- Cape turnover has been compromised for many years by not having stand-alone weekend racing and minimal support from the carryover pool.

... then why not have a card of 6/7 races just with maiden races?

The Sceptre stakes nominations tells u all u need to know about what is wrong with Western Cape racing.

The program is out a few months in advance, if trainers have an issue or think they may not have horses ready for a specific meeting they should be addressing this with the programming committee.

Snaith and Bass feel they are Premier League managers coaching in League One and often act like it..
