I dont understand

One books an apprentice to ride a horse and claim 2.5 kgs
Apprentice rides the horse 1kg overweight
Not only negating the claim but adding 1 kilo
Horse gets beaten <1 length
HOW can this be good for racing?

Trying to not have a go at the appie, as someone mention on other thread the trainer most likely knew she would be carrying overweight.
But it can't bode well for the future if the appie can't make weight now. Don't heavyweight jocks have to earn the right to be a heavyweight jock?

Agree, and not the 1st time I feel an apprentice's career is not being managed correctly.
Only in SA do the "prominent" ones burn through their claim. Over here certain trainer wont even let their apprentices ride for other yards just in case they win. Riding winner is important but so is getting experience.
I also don't think its her fault.
For me actually its about the horse and the punter not getting a run for their money (again)

Appies in the UK are put away for months by certain yards, when the proper flat season ends, and are brought out when needed. They learn the game on the gallops and doing a shift mucking out

From what I remember from working there, most appies work for a boss and then get rides when available. Here the appies basically work for the academy and earn for themselves and the academy( pay for board, food etc). The aim here is to have as many rides as possible and win/ earn whenever they can.

Vennicker is a real talent and her career should be managed.
Start by getting her weight down etc. She can then go and ride overseas where the weight spread is higher.
We do not want her to end up like the talented Fayerdherbe. He can now only ride 60kg's.

I know Rachel very well. She came to me as a 15yr old and I taught her the basics of work riding. ( She was an accomplished rider/showjumper like her whole family before her)She rode work for me for about 2 years before I introduced her to Wendy Whitehead, Alyson Wright and Michael Miller where she also rode work. Garth Puller and Michael Roberts came later. She is a relatively tall girl and works really hard riding work. She will battle to lose anymore weight as she is not naturally light.

There are not many riders that a trainer can justify putting
up overweight ...there are no claimers that warrant that in any world....weight stops trains

This was simply an error of judgment by the trainer, which has cost the owners a likely win.

Agree...
And for punters, a run NOT in accordance to exposed form...
