Horses in training for sale
16 years 8 months ago
I have 3 horses in training for sale a)unraced gelding by count du bois-annabel jones(beauchamp hero)very good looking strong horse bred to go 3000m ,sound and about 1 mth from racing b)unraced colt by labeeb-lamondla(lambent light)will probably have to go to minor centre, but trainer believes he is worth a try on highveld first, he is sound and might surprise c)gelding by modus vivendi-doll dancer(dolpour)has run 3 times 5th 3rd and unplaced on vaal 1400 which everything was wrong for him ,really needed gelding and has since been gelded, this horse is a big strong galloper and is really expected to well over distance .

mikekelly could you give an indication of what type of money you want for each horse. What do you pay for training fees in South Africa

Just as some background if you purchase a horse in the UK, it costs 1200 pound a month and if it wins a maiden you win 3000 quid, here it costs 6000 rands per month or 400 quid per month and if you win a maiden it covers in the region of 8 months training. In addition SA horse flesh has proven to be in a position to compete on the world stage.
Nothing wrong with having a small investment here, trust me!
scotia
viva SA racing!

Dave and 1200quid is with a 'small' trainer mate - try 2000+ with the 'bigger' boys. (I was offered a share in an Irish Filly for 325euro p/mth keep 4/1/12th!!! = £3000 p/mth!)
As for the win money it's like over here around 2500-2700.
What the 4 of us pay for a month over here is about what 1/4 share would be in UK + the cost of a decently bred Filly for instance in the UK will be at least £20k and probably more like £30k+!!!
Whereas a similar decent bred in SA will cost £6 - 10k!
So imo you get much more 'value' for your money.
The only drawback not being able to pop down to the Stable on a Sunday and of course traveling 6000miles to be on course - lol!
Although, you can see them in the UK bookies most of the time.
Jim.

mastul horse a)costing me r150k would like to get money back b)costing about r120k but due to expectancies would consider only r35k and c)costing about r80k and due to ability and expectancies wont take under r150k imo a real bargain if you see the horses. The average training fees on the highveld +-r3.5k +vat plus extras being vet fees etc

Kobus-my cost r350k selling r335k seems like a loss already. If you are REALLY interested in buying horses go see what you can get and for what kind of money and compare.Remember these are 3yo horses that have really been taken slowly, they are now ready to run and earn straight away, they are with a very good trainer who is reputed for being honest about his owners horses abilities and expects the one to do VERY well at this stage.

Your prices do not seem out of line Mike, affordability would be the issue with most people

will your trainer take shares in any of these horses if he thinks they got ability ?
better still why not sell to Piet D, he is not short of a few bob, & has about 20 horses with Stuart already ?

I only decided on thurs morning to sell and advised ST .I dont know Piet D or how he decides what horse to buy or not.Dont know whether ST has shares or owns horses.Have been as transparent as I can,the horses are for sale, and anyone interested in buying them can confirm any info i have supplied with the trainer. My reason for selling is purely financial however i would prefer to keep esp the modus.Thought this forum woul be a good channel af advertisement.
