Lotto Tactis

Just an observation and probably a bit of cynicism, but has anyone noticed how the 20 million seems to appear on major race days. I think the last was on July day. Makes you wonder if there are not other forces at work in racing.

Just an observation......

Lotto is bent all over the world.Here there are always roll overs toward the end of the month. Over holiday season there are sometimes 2 or 3 draws that dont give out a winner. We also have Thunderball which if won, is only 3 times a month and the Daily Play is a joke. Maybe twice a month someone wins the top price which is 30k. The lotto is for the company that runs it and their perspective government.

We only have 2 Lotto games twice a week. My point though is that Lotto freely attacks racing by putting a large draw on a big race day. The Summer Cup and Met are coming, lets see what happens then.

The Pick6 is so easy in comparison.....

(Pick 6 is the winner of the last 6 consecutive legs of a race meeting for you poms who don't know). One can also have multiple horses per leg.

I see where you are coming from. We know what a Pick 6 is as we have a Scoop 6 on the same basis but its only on a Saturday and we cannot do percentage betting as I hear you guys can.

P6 is available to us on every race meeting and for most is much like a lottery. Designed for the mug punters like myself. Much easier dream in my view than a 14 million to 1 lottery draw.

We get the percentage bet but still does not make it any easier. Ive landed 3 full percentage P6's on R6 and R8 full unit bets. when I have gone big trying for a percentage in a carryover Pick6, I get cained. I will stick to the small time R6 and R8 bets.

Racing is entertainment for me not a living and the Pick 6 keeps me entertained provided I stay in.

Same for me. I enjoy betting, I dont go mad. I take a couple of Lucky 15s everyday, thats a bet of 4 races, any races and you can bet across the card, you get singles,doubles and trebles. So for a small investment one can win heaps if all 4 come home. Even three will get you more than your investment, obviously depending on the price. It keeps an interest going.

Ours are pools based but that sounds interesting

I've made some cash on multiple win bets in the UK. I dont touch a form guide but rather look for movement in the betting. The prices always seem to be a good indicator. If an odds on moves out then it generally does not win but the one that moves in the betting does. Your bookies price up properly. Ours seem to price up according to Jockey trainer combos and heresay. Probably not totally accurate but feels this way sometimes.

The horses always seem to run races close together over there so if I like something on one day and it runs ok I commit to memory and play next time out.
The only problem is with the way you guys name horses. Resplendant Nova Resplendant Alpha etc etc. The memory can obviously play tricks.

It does not matter if there is one winner or a million winners, although it would be very unusual if a host of punters played the same horses in the same races. Its an interesting bet as even if one horse wins you win as they double the odds as a bonus. If you play the bet each way then you get the places as well. We also have the Yankee bet, win bets, place bets, exactas, forecasts, trifectas, Lucky 31, Lucky 63, Canadian (dont ask) and various other bets. Also we can play Jackpots and Place pots on the tote. Its amazing how many different types of bets that are offered. More versions of bets means more money for the Big Bookies i.e Ladbrokes, William Hill and Corals.

You are correct when saying that when the fav drifts then it usually does not win. There are some betting stables over here and so when you see a movement on their horses then you will be having a run for your money. Their is a trainer H. Candy. Watch his horses for shortening and also Gay Kelloway ( especially on the all weather with her). There are others to watch as well.

I think that as SA horse gamblers we are still someway behind the UK and Aus. Our industry is under attack and probably needs to mature a bit and get back into mainstream gambling.

Casinos were previously banned in SA and horseracing was the only form of legal gambling around - Probably the only thing the old regime got right IMO

An English mate of mine told me about "The Sales Races" excuse the miss quote, but he said that when horses go on sale and run in these races and shorten from 16/1 to 5/1 you should climb in.
