There were two horses travelling from KZN to Gauteng for Grade One race that may have been inconvenienced if the meeting was only postponed this morning. So based on that logic they made right call. The 95 local horses must just wait an extra week when the KZN owners can be sure racing will occur.

I think we all want to race, but it has been raining steadily for a couple of hours at my place - and imo many more horses would have been inconvenienced by a heavy track - yes they probably could have raced, but there would be moans and groans from the 'punting public' when the mudlarks turn form on its head; so it was probably not an easy call, but all in all I think the right call.

No man you not being serious this was not rain man this was a joke. Something else is going down here that this race meeting was called off so early. Yes This was a cold miserable day with drizzle but no ways can it be called off, for such a big meeting? Nee man is julle ernstig?

Bob tell whoever called you a C**t if they had more than 10mils up to 5pm today then he can a have free ride for a year!

Poorest decision I’ve ever seen taken a day before racing - piss poor

My son stays in Mulbarton and is close to Turffontein, I would say no more than 3km - 4km when measured in a straight line. Yesterday between 7am and 6pm he measured 8mm in his rain gauge. I asked him to do this for me for obvious reasons. So there are a few questions needing asking, How will we handle meetings moving forward? Will each meeting be viewed using the technology used to cancel yesterdays meeting? Will meetings be postponed if there is a chance of more than 8mm of rain? Will this apply to all meetings not just features, and if not, why not? What has happened to the Turffontein track and drainage that it cannot handle 8mm of rain four days after the last rain fell on it?

Last week i backed a 14/1 shot in australia.
It was on a rain soaked heavy track as per the officials.
On the preview this horse was 2/2 on a soft/heavy track from 7 outings.
Had racing always been cancelled on heavy going tracks like it is here, this horses record would probably have read 0/10, if the meeting always got postponed or moved to poly like it happens in south africa.
How aggrieved would i be if i were the owner of this horse, if it raced in south africa.

There are horses that were mudlarks that raced in South Africa.
I even bought a racecard on those days , just to check which horses acted in the wet , as the local newspapers only reflected the last 3 runs and that was only to reflect their positions.

When last have we raced on a heavy track.
Naresh will probably aid in assisting me with horses that had their careers extended , just because they loved the wet.

i'm no expert, but i also heard that horses hooves are constructed differently, and ones with larger hooves loved the yielding going.

maybe we start a thread just on this issue
