The National Horseracing Authority confirms that it has imposed an interim suspension on Trainer Juan Nel with immediate effect pending the determination of an inquiry into an alleged assault against an Official of The National Horseracing Authority on Friday, 6 May 2022 in the vicinity of Fairview Racecourse, Gqeberha.

In light of the seriousness of the matter, the Chief Executive and Racing Control Executive have invoked the provisions of Rule 91.2 which will preclude Trainer Nel from entering and declaring horses to participate in races. He will however be allowed access to his stable premises during this interim suspension period to safeguard the interests of the horses in his care.
