KZN racing continues to be available on Racing 240 on a month-to-month basis

Johannesburg, 1 June 2022

Further to our joint announcement and agreement with Gold Circle on 2 March 2022 that KwaZulu-Natal racing will be available on Racing 240 on DStv Channel 240, 4Racing would like to update the horse racing community on the status of this broadcast agreement.

4Racing has delivered on its commitment to Gold Circle to broadcast KwaZulu-Natal racing on Racing 240 - for the benefit of punters and the broader horse racing industry - and remains fully committed to doing so.

4Racing remains committed to finding a long-term agreement in this regard and initially proposed to Gold Circle a 3-year arrangement.

Gold Circle and GallopTV’s co-funders Hollywoodbets have, however, expressed their preference to make its KZN racing product available to Racing 240 on a short-term month-to-month basis, effective from 1 June 2022, with both parties entitled to give the other one calendar month’s notice to terminate the agreement.

4Racing will respect the GallopTV committee’s wishes and looks forward to working with Gold Circle on the ongoing broadcast of its KZN Champions Season.

4Racing respects and supports the right of each operator to develop and produce its own horse racing broadcast product for its punters and for bookmakers, but does believe that a single national broadcast product is ideal to service all punters and to make the industry attractive to national and international sponsors and partners.

4RacingTV responds to punter calls for fixed odds data graphics

In the meantime, 4Racing continues to work to refine and enhance the Racing 240 channel based on the feedback we have received from stakeholders and our overarching product strategy.

This month will see changes to the split screen and dual odds data display, fixed odds data graphics implemented in partnership with bookmakers and the implementation of augmented reality on course branding, now that all venues have been upgraded to HD and the new IPTV fiber networks are fully installed.

4Racing has also formed a committee representing various stakeholders to continue to channel feedback and ensure as far as possible we factor in the various and diverse needs of the industry in our broadcast strategy and products.

Lol it is funny that after all the fanfare, we have press releases confirming the slow progression towards the product that the old Tellytrack was.

What lies behind the reasoning for wanting to strong arm and then exclude GC racing?

Is it because Phumelela and then the "new" crowd have never wanted to pay what that owe for selling the GC racing internationally? Only recently have they come to settlement which cannot be anywhere near what they should have actually paid. Disgraceful in many respects should this be the case. This would also mean that this organisation was subsidized by this income without passing the agreed percentage on.

The situation in the WC is laughable, and they still think that they have something to negotiate with...

I wish GC & Hollywood would apply for a channel on DSTV, if anything it would reveal how irrelevant channel 240 is.

Another 4Q press release - more of the same - this presser could be a two-liner

"We still don't know why we are here - having achieved 4 call but we are committed to you, the customer that, that some committee we have assembled is going to educate us as to who you are and what's your needs."
