Surely The Jockey Academy ranks as a flop....of course you can name the odd champion but to be frank most coming out of there should be painting and decorating

Bloody harsh man....

Remember the numbers... If SA were churning out 50 or 60 appies a year like the UK, then of course there would be more "Champions"

Rubbish

there would be more soup meat in SA.......most apprentices in the UK have been riding since birth, mucking out, riding ponies.

In Sa to keep that establishment open they LOOK for candidates every year.

And most end up mucking out for a living or "Painters and Decorators "

The current iteration is just a sign of the times with regards racing SA. The Jock acc. of years gone by was world class.

In SA we now have less than 90 Jockeys and Appies available at any given time. Spread of 4 provinces makes u very light. This number is down from about 120, 6 years ago.
