Pretty Betty was sent to Jhb with the GR1 Empress Club as her target. It turned out to be tougher than expected as Princess Calla and Zarina bolstered the field. She didn’t run a bad race, but the Turffontein track is tough for front runners. Her earlier two efforts there were prep runs as she needed time to acclimatise. You can put a line through her last run as the replacement jockey doesn’t know her and didn’t ride her out.
She is in PE as she couldn’t go straight to CT due to travel protocols. She should be fit for this race, and if you take a line through the Majorca, she is 2.5kg better off with Saint Therese for just 2 lengths. Hence she is well in here despite the wide draw. Her regular pilot is up and I think that she can win if she runs to her best form.
Jean Paul runs in race 8. He has matured and strengthened up and I think that he is potentially better than rated. 1000m may be a bit sharp, but he has shown good early toe and he represents decent ew value.
