Increasing pools which increase take-out must be key...field sizes important in this respect as there seems to be a positive correlation between field sizes and pools...

Or is ownership and training too concentrated in a few hands to have bigger fields? As Western Cape trainers raid the Eastern Cape, could Eastern Cape trainers be incentivised to bring some of their horses to the Western Cape, especially lower division races during the Western Cape off season, to increase field sizes...possible that the cost of the incentives will pay for itself through larger pools / take-out...

Just suggesting...brave / honourable to pour money into a known loss making exercise so everything must be done to ensure that losses minimised or some profit made

Wishing @Greg and Hollywoodbets luck and success for their efforts...

.....although I believe Greg is a very nice guy with a genuine passion .....as I remember him when he first came back to RSA introduced himself on other forums at the time and he was very keen. open and engaging....I watched his pre-July interview with Warren Lanferna late last night which was genuinely candid.... and I sincerely hope that his passion for racing is never soured by others seeking to take advantage of that passion in this very hard unforgiving game.....

Hi Craig

Regards your comments, you will probably find that our brand new poster "paybackthemoney" is not some random R10 punters but a senior racing person who fears for their current position by using his or her real name.

This was prominent with our 4Racing threads.
It is sad that these posters come and go and use ABC as a soap box until their personal objectives are met.

It does add a certain spice to the site and generates discussion so we have no intention in changing our current stance on "phantom posters" or "keyboard warriors ".

This thread has generally been very positively acceptable and good on the people who continue to make positive contributions to this very difficult game 👏🤞👍

I have had the pleasure of meeting Greg before and I wholeheartedly believe his reply and motives.

However in the history of Horseracing anytime the fox has been let into the chicken coop the results have
been devastating for the sport.

For me perhaps it should have died. Perhaps had it died and then been resurrected the new deal would
exclude

1: the open bet
2: 70% rehiring

So Greg I do agree and believe you and your motives. I also thank you because at my core I love horse racing but for me this is just a plaster (a massive one) over a malignant tumour and if what you say is true then racing is and will always be dependent on

1: vermin bookmakers

2: people like you that want it to survive and see it as philanthropy........

and that cannot be good.

and I forgot......

people like me (and there are many) have been funding racing for decades. As owners we have the most input and the least output.

The only way to get stakes back to an acceptable level vs training costs is to support the tote.

What are the challenges

The tote is for exotics and the open bet obviously is the major concern.

The scroll on the tote for win bets is between R1.00 to R1.50 vs a bookmakers using same horses is between 5/10 to evens
So how can you get punters to use the tote ?
It's loyalty vs stupidity.
I know we are mug punters and I don't know the answers?

Good Punting

Hi Dave, I see your point of view regarding the use of pseudonyms but for me personally, I don't value anything written from someone hiding behind a pseudonym and especially when they write something that insinuates that people who are putting their money where their mouths are to save this game that we love, are doing it underhandedly. You may have knowledge of who these keyboard warrior's are but I don't and won't just accept that they are anything but that.

You don't use a pseudonym, nor does Dave, Greg, Louis Goosen or myself just to name a few so put your name to your opinion. Don't hide. That has always been my way of thinking.
