Ride like a girl
2 years 11 months ago
.....what a pity that Rachel Venniker is our only local female jock....as I have always believed that many horses will respond better to a softer touch....as I see many Ozzie female jocks get better results on a daily basis than their male counterparts....and I miss the days of other top riding females like Lisa Prestwood and Nadine Rapson that instantly come to mind as I more often got them right than most of the others that rode here....but you dont have to be a girl to have a soft touch.... as back in the day when we had no female jocks but did have several female work riders and when we needed a soft touch... my dear friend John McMurtry was called up to deliver the result ....even bigger names Michael Cave and even Martin Schoeman had that soft touch but were never that easy to to engage being snapped up by bigger yards.... similarly Ian Sturgeon also rode in the same soft fashion and delivered accordingly .....the problem with too many male jocks..... is that they ride too much with their balls and not enough with their brains....

From the other thread....
......I actually feel pretty grim as I had an opportunity to be in on getting a prospective jockett into our local racing....
last year I met a very smart young Britsh girl of Indian decent out on a holiday....she just happened to be a work rider for a top UK stable and had thrown her leg over some top horses including several that belonged to the Queen..... she asked if I could take her to a training centre and introduce her to a few trainers so she could extend her holiday to a working one....I was more negative about our racing then....and actually told her not to waste her time as our racing is f@cked and very little chance for a female jockey here....
.....now that there is an incentive for female jocks to compete here.....I have fired up a whattsapp message to the family that hosted that highly marketable young British lass with the news of the sex allowance and opportunities it could have for her becoming a fully fledged jockey....

Unconfirmed reports coming in, Male jockeys that have been performing poorly will now be given an option to tuck it in using a rubber band, and will receive a 1kg allowance.

.....yeah....we can joke about the quandary in which this debacle has fast become a laughing stock event.....and instead of promoting our racing.... people are doing more harm with poorly conceived and ill timed actions... this is just another little red rocket that has crashed and burned racing....I am trying so very hard to become optimistic and enthusiastic.... but that glass will never even become half full....
