Support from a stable is vital for success.
W. Kennedy is our current champion jockey who is based in KZN.
Yet the stats show his most no. of wins and stakes were earned in GP.
With the support of Paul Peter stables.

On non-racing days we can fly-in young promising jocks from Ngong or Borrowdale.

Who are all these "great" jockeys we want to save???

What racing was everyone watching on Saturday???

South African racing needs a dose of reality when it comes to race riding with proper fines and riding ban's. Why is it that the SA jocks behave in Hong Kong? How many of our jocks make it in other racing jurisdictions?

Don't get me wrong, i think we have very talented jockey's but what they get away with here is frightening.

Saturdays examples;
1. Jason Gates stands up before the line in a Grade 1, either he thought that he won the race or he totally misjudged the finish line. Either way it was a shocker and he is lucky the result went his way.
2. Lerena on Kommetdieding took out MK's Pride and impeded Astrix with the horse hanging straight across the track. He knows the horse hangs but hey, if i can win then i don't care.
3. M Mjoka on Monashada pulls up his mount causing an instant traffic jam and dangerous situation without reason. This could have caused some of the horses to come down but hey, you don't have to let the horse stride.
4. Lerena cuts straight across when the gates open on Keep On Dancing, doesn't even keep his mount on a straight line for 50 meters.

We have a lot of talent but we need to take off the rose tinted glasses as South Africans.

Go look at the Jocks that rode in the 2022 July, then go look at riders in the race say 15 years ago... Touche

Apart from Venniker no champions in the apprentices riding now.
Maybe 20% might carry on race riding.
Younger jocks I would say Calvin Habib and Ryan Munger have potential to become really top jockeys.

The same can be said for a whole lot of professions. I know that it is for mine. The question though is, is this due to the "poor" quality of new incumbents, or is that the institutional standards are dropping? I think its the latter.

We have young talented jockeys who just need to get some quality rides to prove their metal.

A guy like Denis Schwarz comes to mind, this guy is more than capable but he requires decent rides.

Diego de Gouveia, JP van der Merwe and a few others will not disappoint when given decent riding opportunities from the top stables.

Just my two cents
