d) Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse JET DARK more than 12 times in the entire race. When determining the penalty, the Stewards considered that this was Jockey R Fourie’s 13th transgression of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline M) since 1 August 2021 and his 7th offence inside the preceding 60 days period. Accordingly, a fine of R35 000 and a suspension from riding in races for a period of 10 days were imposed. (Suspension dates to be advised)
e) Jockey G Lerena signed an admission of guilt for Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse KOMMETDIEDING more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (14) Jockey G Lerena struck the horse KOMMETDIEDING, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop and his record (1) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R10 000 was imposed.

c)Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse JET DARK more than 12 times in the entire race. When determining the penalty, the Stewards considered that this was Jockey S Khumalo’s 28th transgression of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline M) since 1 August 2021 and his 3rd offence inside the preceding 60 days period. Accordingly, a fine of R4000 and a suspension from riding at two consecutive KZN Racemeetings were imposed. (Suspension dates to be advised)

h)Jockey B Fayd’Herbe signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse JET DARK more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (17) Jockey B Fayd’Herbe struck the horse JET DARK, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop in relation to this Rule, the status of the race and finishing position of JET DARK. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R10 000 was imposed.
I won't be surprised if soon the jockeys stage some type of protest....I would...either hitting a horse hurts it or it does not....if it hurts then why even allow 12 strikes or for that matter 1 strike.... is there any evidence that 12 strikes don't hurt but 13 or more do? A rule that needs testing by appeal with the NHRA providing proof of their metric.
