Race 1: Maiden 1000m
On form #6 RED IMPACT (5-10) looks a certainty against the other raced runners. The form of his races hasn’t worked out to be nearly as strong as most pundits expected, but they have still produced winners so he can’t really be faulted on that. However, I do have a major concern about today’s going for him. Both his starts have been on good going (pens 20 and 21), but today the ground is completely different. I don’t claim to be any sort of expert when it comes to the conformation of horses, but to my eye he carries his head quite low in his races with a resultant low knee action. I have real concerns that he won’t act well on the soft track. He’s a very short price and I’d be cautious about taking that price. I’ll be looking to beat him at this price and I’M AGAINST HIM.
#7 RUBERTUS (7-1) made a fair debut in a race which produced an upset result, with the market heavily stacked towards just two runners who both failed to deliver. His stable says he has come on well from that run, but strictly on form he has a lot to do to beat the Fav. The going was good to soft (pen25) when he debuted, so we at least know he’ll handle the ground. #4 HOT ICE (early support 10-1 into 4-1) is bred to have speed and the stable is expecting a forward run on his debut. The other unraced runners should find 1000m on the short side based on breeding.
I don’t have an opinion as to what will win because there isn’t much to have conviction in bar the Fav, so if the Fav does handle the ground he will win, but I do have concerns as to whether he will.
SELECTION: Nil, but I’m going to oppose the Fav #6 RED IMPACT at 5-10.

Treble :-
R1) Red Impact x (R2) I'll Slip Away x (R4) Sparkling Crystal

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

It's clear skies now, but further rain is forecast for later- track already soft so hopefully we get through the day.
Race 1 Red Impact has the form but a very skinny price with a few unknowns on debut. Rubertas fair debut and should come on from that looks the danger. Aussenkehr, which I bred, poor debut in the sales race but ignore that as he was shin sore and probably pushed to get ready for that run. Dam has thrown good winners, and I would expect much better from him after a break.
Race 2 Helen's Legacy fair debut when 3rd behind runaway winner. She can win this, although will be better further. I'll Slip Away her main danger amongst the raced runners, but beware the unraced ones.
Race 3 I Did It My Way is the one to beat. William The First fair debut and could challenge, but wide draw to overcome.
Race 4 The youngster Love Rules decent debut and is the one to beat in a moderate field.
Race 5 Competitive race where Snaith has a strong hand with his three, and the consistent Silent war should also be respected.
Race 6 Major Attraction down in class and distance suited, but carries a big weight. Dean Street is lightly raced and improving and is a big danger, and similarly Sugar Mountain. Northern Song decent run last time after a year's break, and is well in at the weights on best form. Stable companion Han Solo has solid form. Very open.
Race 7 Academic Gold ran away with it last time and can win again despite the 6 point hike. Not much between Perfect Trust, Jasmine and Rosalie Runs.
race 8 Heathcliff has scope for improvement and is my first choice. Arctic Ice good run last time and if repeating should challenge. Auld Mug fair run in PE
