.....it was Santa Anita that had a Tapeta track that failed.....and yes many tracks in USA are Tapeta as they have an abundance of the polymer or better rubber materials to maintain these tracks.....the problem with most track failures is when these materials are not readily available then lower cost locally sourced replacements are used causing major deterioration faster....I think that Santa Anita track had problems with high hot winds and was not able to retain enough moisture....they increased the wax ratio which when warmer becomes more viscous and the substrate then became too dense.....the problem with these artificial surfaces is trial and error and constant experimentation tweaking mixing adding ...as even the "science" can't keep up with prediction of weather and changing climate ...
.....when they proposed Polytrack at PE I thought it would be a problem in being too dry there and difficult to maintain ....however they got it right... ..until now when it got too wet....:S
Rantjies training track was problematic and they battled and tweaked added and harrowed mixed to try be fixed and seeing this Phum in the day were turned off in repeating this venture at any other of their race courses....but maybe did not want to spend their lolly and take home bigger share dividends instead....
....and although it is a science it is unpredictable and very hit and miss.....and thus not my poison and as an ultra purist far prefer turf racing.....I hardly have an interest in USA racing for this reason and that they also use plenty prerace medication....:S

Found this on another thread some time ago and C&P to give more context
......sadly these track systems are largely designed by trial and error as no climatic conditions are ever exactly the
same ....temperature dew points altitude wind humidity maintenance and other factors....in 1985 I worked for a European chemical and plastics multinational.....I was tasked with doing a feasibility study on a polymer by- product for various local applications including artificial horse racing surfaces.....needless to say there was no local interest whatsoeva.....I however retained the information on these applications....and have followed with interest the so called technology and have seen many failures of these various systems.....Del Mar Singapore Meydan Toowoomba are the ones that spring to mind....and they may not have been done by the same company but the principle is still similar....i always thought we would have problems in PE but it is largely hassle free....I believe that some short cuts may have been taken at Greyille that has compromised the drainage system and rendering it to the problems of meetings having to be abandoned.....:S

I took a pick 6 yesterday on track, with losing selections in the 1st race and binned my ticket.
Checking what it paid, the Tabgold site says the Pick6 was a refund.
If this is true - it seems hard on the people who backed the 1st leg winner - but .. how do I claim my refund ?
Thx

The rule states that if only one leg of the Pick 6, Jackpot and Place Accumulator run you entitled to a full refund in any venue including International. Abit of the topic but if you take a Tote Double and your horse get scratched you entitled to a refund on the selected horse.
You can get your money back. You will need to get a claim form from the Tote, the best will be at the track since you wagered your bet there. I think they ask for approximate time, amount of wager. If you know the teller where you took the bet, it will have a machine ID so it can be traced easier.
Some of the people I know have gotten their winnings after filling the form in KZN.

Thanks - I did google Tabgold Pick 6 rules, and nothing comes up.
Maybe try get someone to fix etc.
It should be easy enough to claim the refund - the tote windows are limited and not too busy (unfortunately).
Thanks again.

Naresh, first leg of the double only.
If you still alive going into the second leg and your horse gets scratched you then get the tote favorite.

Apologies, forget to put first leg only. You are correct, first leg only you will get a refund on the selected horse. The second leg, you get the favorite.
