BRITAIN'S most valuable race next Saturday takes place at Musselburgh.
Yes, you did read that correctly. The £60,000 NationalExpress York Sprint Cup is rocketing up the East Coast rail line for the day and being staged at the Scottish track.
This unusual arrangement is the result of a fixture swap between the two courses, accommodating the drainage work taking place at Yorkand following on from the move that saw Musselburgh's Scottish Sprint Cup being run at York earlier in the year.
And with £150,000 total prize-money from sponsors National Express and Scotbet, Channel 4 will be in attendance to capture the top-qualityracing on offer at the Scottish venue.
Saturday's fixture is a fine way for the East Lothian course to start winding up its Flat season, with only one more meeting – on Friday, November 7 – before the jumps season takes centre stage on Friday, November 28.
Furthermore, with no SPL football on Saturday due to the Scotland v Norway World Cup qualifying clash that day, Musselburgh can expect a healthy crowd.
Musselburgh's general manager Bill Farnsworth said: “With £150,000 on offer,it's Musselburgh's richest raceday ever and Channel 4's coverage recognises us as the main meeting on its programme, which is another first for Musselburgh.
