Could we really have Smackaroos?
2 years 7 months ago - 2 years 7 months ago
Good morning all from a rather sick old man.
Turning 71 years has not been a good year and it's only a week later, plus the horses have been worse than me.
Humble continues to struggle and Great Scott won't run again.
As far as the topic and the financial turmoil on the planet its possible that Scotland could have another go at independence?
I must say I looks forward to the excellent Biznews hitting my email at 6.00 every morning.
Maybe Alec can comment but he is pretty tied up on the Jooste saga.
Just to touch on racing local and overseas before I move back to more pressing issues.
We have the Charity Mile where Safe Passage is my selection on what should be a great day.
We also have the Summer Cup and again my early selection is Safe Passage but will listen to what MDK has to say.
Cape Guineas should also be special.
Oversea flat season did end a bit flat with Inspiral and Baaeed getting beat however we still have a new star in Australia Giga Kick beating Nature Strip in the Everest.
The Breeders Cup on Nov 6th where Flighline looks impossible to oppose.
The Melbourne Cup is wide open.
Remember next years 2000 gns where Little Big Bear is my ante post punt .
Plus next years ARC Emily Upjohn.
The jump season has kicked in and the King George on boxing day should go to Allaho.
Cheltenham looks like it will be four day festival
The highlight should be Constitution Hill vs Honeysuckle .
Plus Facile Vega in Supreme Novice with Energumene for the Chase .
Women are becoming big in boxing and I would love to see a bout between the soon to be ex prime Minister Liz Truss (or don't Trust ) versus Nicola Sturgeon in Glasgow the night before the referendum.
Was going to talk about the pros and cons of BEE but will leave that for another post .
It's an old clip but a good crack 👏
Spend your Smackaroos wisely comings up to Christmas

Seeing that you mentioned some Aus racing, the Cox plate is on Saturday, not sure the time.

One of my memories of Smackaroo
Think was called Hawaii stakes 1400 meters . Just before Germiston November at Gosforth Park
Wolf Power vs. Rain Forest vs. Smackaroo showdown
Wolf Power beat Forest and Smackaroo third.
Good memory

According to the archives, Harmse and another owner, Fowler.
@ The race you mentioned with Wolf Power, that race was the Holiday Inns Trial. When I was growing up my late Dad always talked about the race Holiday Inns.
The trainer is listed has Barnard which is Heming. Also listed is David Payne and Russell Laird.

The Hawaii Stakes was run from 1 Jan 1971 for a couple years, before it became the Kraunenbrau 1600 and then for many years the First National Bank 1600, all races run over 1600m, and except the first 2 runnings, all run on the last Saturday of November - the current Summer Cup date. Subsequently it has become the Horse Chestnut and the Hawaii has become another race, equivalent to the old Keith Hepburn Champion Stakes, which was run prior to the Germiston November over 1400m.
