Grant's Rocket

....Liked this Anfields Rocket from day one and labeled him on his pedigree even though his siblings were pretty average.....been following him from his debut where I did not capitalize on his big price in April this year.... this horse is able to switch off and make up ground when it matters most....will soon find himself in the best sprinters company and be lethal 1200-1400 and may get a soft mile when older.... but the sire who is considered a relative failure was pure speed and has not covered anything in 2 seasons....hope he did not get a bullet as he should do well in Natal.....;)

.....is Coup de Grace still alive....only 1 on sale at last CTS sale.....and none at Nationals.....last coverings registered at NHRA is 2020.....

Can't say he has been a great success at stud - only 30% winners to runners and if you take a away his most successful runner Un Deux Trois only averages 33k average earnings per runner this season - depends how you look at it though - Willow Magic for example averages less than 30% winners to runners and taking away MK's Pride, only averages slightly more than Coup de Grace on average earner per runner

.....not the sire that fits all pots....liked the Galileo mare that even with imo incorrectly mated Count Du bois showed something there.....for me the son of Tapit was a good fit...;)

.....I now see in SP that they are really talking this horse up.....as similar to Domino Man, whom many poo-poed to get the Cape Guineas trip.....but they also have an eye on the Dingaan's where he will really be up against the better trip suited sort in MDK's charge.....

.....bounced back to win at altitude in a prep for the up country Guinea's... but failed dismally at his tilt in the Cape... and imvho he is no miler just yet.....however his ability to switch off and put his speed to work when it matters most will get him into the frame.....but if they go hard he may be run off his feet.....

.....well congrats to Grant for this top notch Gr1 win.....admittedly I was in the camp of him being a bit iffy over the trip but went for Jimmy Don(big time) instead who too also had a bit of doubt based on the genes....included the rocket in the exotics as he is a good sort.... but they did not go that hard and thus this result ....and a nice swinger but expected it to pay a lot more.....will be interested to see how they fare in the Derby and really test that genome .....
