.....the MR80 entry stands out like a sore thumb.....so why is it in the race if not to make the pace....tactically they need to ensure a pace as the 2 goodies are unfavorably drawn and will need to come off the tail of the field and run on from a decent pace.....a back up forward runner comes in the Kotzen coupling and may not be sacrificed but needs to be given reign as last run awkward when restrained....gonna be a cracker event and not a on the nose punt for me....will float the 2 goodies in exotics and look for a place value bet closer to the race......;)

It all depends if the OWNER wants to the hare. It would be a sour lemon with me if my runner was PLANNED to be a hare without my approval.

......on closer inspection the identified hare is not a front runner....a slow starter...so the 3 draw is a death trap..... maybe plan B....

A true story but can’t remember the source.

Fast track Denim Dandy, owned by Skjoldhammer I think, to one of the 1980’s Met’s.

Skjoldhammer to Mrs Jean Hemming/Barnard “I want Denim to set a hot pace in the Met.

Jean “… but Sir, you know that Millard always has a pacemaker”.

Skjoldhammer “I don’t trust Mr Millard”.

Jean “OK”.

Cometh the Met, Denim Dandy sets the Met’s hottest pace we racing aficionados have ever appreciated. Denim trails in last, but the Mr Millard trained fav Devon Air ( I think) wins the race.

Guess the details of Mr Skjoldhammer’s huge bet 😊.

Of course, we only heard the story afterwards.

From my memory, I could recall Devon Air never won a met. Found a Met which Denim Dandy ran as a 7yo unplaced. Won by Millard and Coetzee on Artic Cove. That could be the race. The archives are pretty thin and unreliable with races missing.

Found this clip of Artic Cove. Some well known horses for the oldies....The video will play on YouTube only.

If you watched the video, was the commentator, Eric Denman, he mentions Robbie Sham. Robbie Sham rode Spanish Galliard when it won the July and the commentator was salivating when it won. I wonder if it was the same commentator. My first year of high school.

There were two Denman’s, brothers - Eric and Trevor, one of whom became that famous commentator in the USA. Not sure what happened to the other. The USA Denman had a signature at the start of every race, “and away they go 🎶” which we didn’t hear in the two links above. 🤷‍♂️.

That was Erik Denman ,just loved his commentary very exciting.
Remember the race at Greyville where Model Man and Potomac pulled clear of the field ,awesome commentary by Erik Denman.
The race where Spanish Galliard won,I listened to the commentary ,I think it was radio 2000(Afrikaans Station). The commentary was in Afrikaans and I remember the commentator was Hennie Pieterse and he said something like this."En as hulle draai na die wenpaal to en die wenner is die wenner!" I quickly looked at the card as so no horse name was Wenner.

The Spanish Galliard I am almost certain it was Eric Denman. The video below of the Champion Stakes won by Arctic Cove. Is it Eric Denman ad well because the commentator mentions Robbie Sham.

You have to click on the link to watch the video. Thanks.
