Inequity in gambling market by kreel.

"Examination of the possibility of the existence of inside information in a market is what
is meant by testing the market for strong efficiency. In recent years the market for
shares has been rocked by scandals involving insider trading despite strict legislation
prohibiting such behaviour. There is currently no legislation prohibiting trading on inside
information at the racetrack. We believe therefore, that the tests of strong efficiency
made in this work have implications for legislation at governmental level as well as for
further investigation into probable "illegalities" and immoralities that occur at South
African racetracks." (1993 kreel)

Is it still the case?

There is no doubt that many are privy to information that the ordinary punter will never have access to and that it does make the playing field very uneven. Its seldom about having a sure thing but more about knowing the well being of horses and whether they will be triers or not. Also the ability of first timers could be of great value to the ordinary punter.

In racing there are two elements to a less than equal wagering environment, the transparency issue as highlighted by Biscuit and the ability of affluent players to have a more competitive exotic.

I have been campaigning for a number of years to have new, more equitable exotics introduced that will give smaller players a better run for their money and make them more competitive and at the same time making the lack of information less punitive to those not in the know.

What such products could do for racing's image and punter satisfaction would be immeasurable but of great value to the expansion of the sport.

Hoping that operators will ultimately realise the value of making the sport more attractive and rewarding for the average man in the street.

There still is insider trading and the larger bookmaker's are all privy to that information. Like Interbet, they have a data base that tells them when certain clients punt and or lay horses. Surely the Gambling Boards check these records for any irregularities? Certain horses drift off the boards and others they take any price about them. The man in the street has no chance. Time to level the playing fields more. The Authorities also need to police racing far better. Like the rest of SA there is no justice. The current betting market in SA is very weak, hence such huge betting changes in most races. We need more control in a great sport before it dies.

The bookie or tote are merely the middle man between those in the know that win and the average punter who loses...

....not all horses tested and trainers thereof use this.....and I think of late it is used less and less....furthermore not many know how to analyze or read what they see.....basically it gives a "picture" of the amount or ratio of platelets white and red.....higher red count is what one would like to have indicating that a horse is not infected virally or has abnormal bacterial presence.....should the white platelet count be high the horse is then not well and should not be racing.....some maintain that higher red counts it would indicate a level of fitness but this is highly debated as each horse will show their own very different blood picture and is not an exact science but a tool to check wellbeing and not wellness.....
