# Vaal Tuesday 6 June 2023 – Comments by David Thiselton
RACE 1
Preview: VIVACIOUS VICKY (10) ran well second time out after not being disgraced in a race that has worked out well on debut and De Melo is an eyecatchingh booking. CHARGE AHEAD (3) was staying on well on debut and looks likely to come on a lot from that race. FRENCH DUCHESS (11) was squeezed out close to home on debut and would have definitely got a lot closer but the form of the first mentioned pair still looks stronger. STORMY CHOICE (12) also had bad luck last time and could be involved in the finish considering her two decent runs before that. DREAM STATE (4) showed some pace on debut and should have strengthened. David Thiselton(10-3-11-12-4)
RACE 2
Preview: VILLAGE GREEN (12) is by Flower Alley and is a half-sister to Cool Runnings, who won on debut, and to the consistent Climate Control, and she would not have to be great shakes to win this race, although draw one might be a concern. NO FILTER (7) just failed to go start to finish last time over 1200m and might appreciate the drop to the minimum trip. WAITFORGREENLIGHT (13) has shown enough to be involved here. (David Thiselton 12-7-13)
RACE 3
Preview: DUENNA (
was continually baulked for a run last time and she had taken a while to get going on debut so that ruined her chances and she could bounce back with De Melo up. LAW OF SUCCESS (1) ran a fine race last time over 1160m and should be right there. PASS THE BATON (12) ran an improved race last time and could earn here. (David Thiselton 8-1-12)
RACE 4
Preview: DREAMLAND (7) made a fair debut from a wide draw over 1200m on the Inside track and can bounce back over that trip again after disappointing over further. AND ACTION (5) stayed on well when produced down the unfavourable side on debut and should improve. KLITSGRAS (
has pace and has some scope so it would not be a surprise if he went close. POLICY OF TRUTH (10) is by Master Of My Fate and is a half-brother to a couple of winners. RAVEN BLACK (4) did well in two starts but comes back from an eight month layoff. (David Thiselton 7-5-8-10-4)
RACE 5
Preview: SILENT WAR (3) has his third run after a layoff and third run on the Highveld and if reproducing his penultimate start he should go close. SAMOA (
usually produces a strong finish and is a reliable sort. AFTER HOURS (13) has 2,25 lengths to make up on Silent War from a 1160m race and is 1kg worse off but he did have an unfavourable low draw in that aforementioned race. (David Thiselton 3-8-13)
RACE 6
Preview: ROCK THE FOX (7) has the class to win this and is best in at the weights and trainer Tarry said had been doing well but may just need the run. NOW I GOT YOU (6) also has class and should have come on from his last run. ARIVIDICIO (4) disappointed in first time blinkers over 1200m last time but should appreciate the step up in trip. (David Thiselton 7-6-4)
RACE 7
Preview: BIG EYED GIRL (7) won well last time and can do well from a high draw being just 1,5kg under sufferance under the conditions. SMITH AND WESSON (
is in fine form and can continue to progress. FLOWERBOMB (1) is talented and is just half-a-kilogram under sufferance with the best weighted pair Midnight Gem and May Queen. (David Thiselton 7-8-1)
RACE 8
Preview: NOTHINGELSEMATTERS (7) made a good Highveld debut and is well drawn over a step up in trip to his winning distance in Cape Town. TOTAL SURRENDER (4) won well second time out and starts off handicapping off a fair mark. OVER TWO YOU (3) is looking good on the form of his penultimate start when 4,25 lengths behind River Romeo because the latter copped a 23 point raise when running quite close in the Gr 1 Daily News 2000, (David Thiselton 7-4-3)
