ANC JULY "Paint it Black"

Good afternoon all and we are home safe and sound after a wonderful July weekend.

As I am sure you are aware Durban was buzzing with July fever and the town was purple with the Hollywood theme and marketing promotions.

This was a massive boost for tourism in KZN and every pub, club, restaurant was full house over the weekend.

The food, drinks and hospitality was second to none on the big day and a massive thank you to Hollywood and Gold Circle for an event well planned and marketed.

We met the overseas press from France, Australia and the UK and the event was televised to a large international audience to promote our premier race day.

Then along comes the ANC involvement.

Let's give them great seats, great food and drink and let them hand out trophies.

All racing asks is that they ensure the load shedding is exempt for 2 hours in the Greyville stadium area.

Keeping up with their dismal track record this was totally beyond their capabilities.
We were placed in darkness and the track was turned from purple 💜 to black ⚫️

Races 10, 11 and 12 were abandoned.

Lost income for Gold Circle and massive disappointment for owners who had traveled horses to have a runner on the big day.

Hotel accommodations, flights, table bookings etc all spoilt when the power went off.

A well done to all the winners on the day and it was racing at its best.

Mrs Geriatric, Princess Calla and Winchester Mansion stole the show.

The site was full of comments and suggestions on the best way forward and an Ascot, Cheltenham festival theme might be considered for next year.

Possibly a three day event with 7 races per day?

However it's a shame that contingency plans have to be made to minimize Government involvement.

As expected AUGUSTA RODIN won the Irish Derby to add to its English Derby success but did not show a "Mill Reef" performance to make him a cert for the ARC?

Maybe the race was marred by the loss of San Antonio and a bit interference to the fav.

Good Punting 👍

We were left in the dark 😪
