1 year 11 months agoNo it's poorly run tracks
With a lethal combination of our current lot of jocks that are permanently softer than the tracks.
Did they demand any guarantees today!!!!

Fair enough it's a dangerous profession but they knew that when the chose to follow that career.
Do they get paid enough?.......the top guys for sure but the average jock needs every ride he can get to make ends meet at the end of the month.And I have a feeling it's not the less fashionable jockey that refuses to ride.They probably getting bullied by the more popular jockeys who think they entitled to a greater say in these events.
Even one of the world's best,Christophe Soumillon,couldn't get through to them.

@Durbs,
It is my understanding that the decision to hold a race meeting is one that is agreed upon between the operator and the NHA. The decision to cancel a meeting should also be a decision between the operator and the NHA. The Jockeys should have absolutely no say whether a meeting proceeds or not. A jockey who feels its is unsafe to ride can make his case (not her case …. as Rachel has a pair or two) and protest and our rules should afford the jockey an immediate holiday of XX number of days if the race meeting proceeds without his participation.
Owners and trainers should also have FINANCIAL RECOURSE to any jockey who refuses to ride if the operator and the NHA proceeds with a race meeting to recover all costs and associated expenditure incurred to get the horse to the said race meeting. Then we will separate the boys from the men.
If a total number of jockeys >2 are prepared to race (less fashionable or not), let the meeting proceed and give the rest of the softies a well-deserved holiday from earning any income.
We have had match races in the past and there is no reason why we can’t have them in the future.
