CHOOSE YOUR FLAVOUR OF THE 2023 BETWAY SUMMER CUP THEME
1 year 10 months agoThe Betway Summer Cup is styled as ‘The People’s Race’ and last year it was all about the ‘Golden Summer’. This year, the people will choose the new theme for Gauteng’s most anticipated blue ribbon event set to be held on Saturday, 25 November 2023 at the Turffontein Racecourse.
There is just one day left for horseracing punters and fans to submit their choice of theme to 4Racing for the 126th running of Joburg’s most inclusive, family-friendly and entertainment-rich Grade 1 horseracing event.
There’s still time to submit your idea for the 2023 Betway Summer Cup theme before the closing date this Wednesday, 26 July 2023. Simply email your name, surname, mobile number and theme idea in 10 words or less to mytheme@4racing.tv or enter by commenting on one of our pinned posts on social media.
Up for grabs are six VIP tickets to the 2023 Betway Summer Cup, a TAB betting voucher and a session with a personal stylist to ensure the winner looks the part.
“It’s time to come to the home of horse racing with a brand new Betway Summer Cup theme that speaks to the authenticity and diversity that Gauteng is known for, with fresh and fun ideas to make it your own day against the backdrop of incredible sport,” says 4Racing’s Head of Events and Hospitality Manager, Cherise Tem Tem.
The Betway Summer Cup always has something for everyone to enjoy.
Stylish hospitality areas, electrifying racing, good food, drinks, roving fashion shows, exceptional live music and a kids zone mean everyone will be catered for this November.
The winner and the new theme for this year’s Betway Summer Cup will be announced on Gold Cup Day, 30 July 2023

OK let me share my thoughts on this post.
We were at the very successful July weekend including the fashion show on the Friday evening.
The theme was Out of This World and the fashions were totally over the top to the normal punter.
I am sure the designers and models were aware of what a "swinger" is but they have never had a punt.
The costumes were extremely impractical and very uncomfortable for a day at the races.
We must remember that a day at the races can be a long day and even longer if you can't find a winner.
Being comfortable is a big factor for a race day especially when the years catch up.
It's the "people's race" so we should consider who the people are vs a day at the races in the UK.
Our population are generally unemployed and many have to scratch through dustbins early in the mornings for plastic bottles and old food to feed their families.
The minimum wage in the UK is a managerial salary in SA. and the average family can enjoy a visit to Ascot or Cheltenham.
The UK are still offering incentives to attract skilled people and SA is a suitable feeding trough for middle class citizens who have to battle for power and water on a daily basis.
However let's put aside our challenges and focus on what would be a good theme but also considering that a dress theme is probably not the answer to generate tote turnover.
"WE BUILT THIS CITY"
(on rock and roll)
Is my suggestion as Rock and Roll theme can cover all tastes
You can still cater for the over the top brigade.
Rocket Man from Elton John or Ziggy Stardust from Bowie is ideal to show off a few feathers.
Oscar will probably come as Bruce Springsteen anyway
Elvis I am sure he can think of something?
The Beatles had great jackets
Union Jack suit for the WHO
For the Greeks Demis Roussos look.
Plus if you have your penguin suit from the racing awards you can be Pavarotti.
Everyone can be comfortable with many options.
Betway doing a great job and the punters tax incentives on horse racing should have been introduced years ago to match a sporting bet.
One other consideration should be a Fun Bus from Pretoria to Joburg from the Hangover Sports Bar or Randjies clubhouse.

I understand that "SUMMER REIGN" is the theme, not sure if King Charles will attend 🤔
