And have you ever thought of the conflict of interests?
Bookmakers sponsoring jockeys and trainers...can't get more of a conflict of interests than that. But without sponsoring all and sundry in the sport we would not be racing this day without them.
They desperate for this sport to stay alive in SA....not because they love it so much but because they make good money out of it.

Re: VAAL THURSDAY 17 AUGUST 2023
1 year 10 months agoIf you disciplined and go for a horse on two on the day some would be making a profit.
If you play exotics most would not make a profit in the long run unless you hit one for a good few hundred thousand.
Beyond the Pale,do you know that horse racing in SA is a dying game?
Have you been to a course lately and seen the amount of spectators?
In the olden days racing was the only form of gambling. Now we have football and casinos.
Machines at the casinos is just luck yet more have moved there than a sport where skill is supposed to be involved.Ever thought why?
And to top it all off.....who is bailing horse racing out from their pathetic predicament?
Yes the bookies because they know they the ones making the money on our racing.Surely they wouldn't bail them out if they where making a loss with our racing.
You forgot to mention lucky numbers, lotto star, spinnie zonkie, Avitator etc. etc…………

1 year 10 months agoYou on Muzi and you'll love him.
Has that for intimidation without actually touching the other horse.
From the centre he slowly pushed Lerena all the way to the outside rail thus 'scaring' the other horse in the process.
IF ONLY Striker had done SIMILAR on - SEE IT AGAIN...JULY DAY .... i would have been a WINNER & STILL COUNTING MY MONEY !!!

End of the day,you making money you definitely interested.
The pools and the punters on course prove that less and less are interested, could just be that they think they not getting a run for their money anymore.

For me its the funniest to hear people on this forum, commentators & presenters, praising Hollywood & WSB etc for sponsoring racedays, jocks, grooms, trainers, competitions, keeping the industry going, etc etc etc...........
Dont these people realize its US, the poor mug punting fools, who are paying for all their perceived good deeds.
lol
& how long can it last. Owners being fleeced left right & center, they are the real victims.

Exactly Tony...how long can it last.
R15 000 plus a month additional to what you pay for the horse.
80% of owners make a loss I would think.Who in their right mind would pay so much money just to have the thrill of maybe leading in a winner?
Boost their ego or status maybe but most rational thinking humans wouldn't see horse racing as an investment.

The bookmakers profits in this game, horses, sports, lotto etc must be mind boggling to still keep the horse racing industry alive with their small pocket change.
I feel for the horse owners but the time has surely come for them to realize it cant go on. The well is dry. The attendance at the courses & TAB pools are all the proof they need.
Celebrities on big race days who dont have a clue what they are doing there. hahahah

Actually, to end off, I really dont give a fuck.
I am banned or limited by almost all the supposedly strong fearless bookmakers & I wont go into a dirty disgusting Tote, so I have spent nothing, zero, on their "good deeds" etc
There are other ways of betting for people in my position (banned or limited) & personally I donate monthly to the Highveld Horse Care Unit.
Wish I could say, long may it last.
