Hi everyone this is a midweek post before we hit the real deal World Cup rugby and some good racing over the weekend.

Could not resist sharing some words of wisdom from Garrick:

The site has been very busy this week with the biggest topic being the speech from Greg Bortz at the Cape awards.

We've had lots of comments on the site plus some harsh replies on the subject. In this regard a decision had to be made by Bob and I to withhold some of these.

We have always tried to allow freedom of speech on the site since we've been operating but there will always be a thin line on what is and what is not acceptable.

Trust me we have plenty of drama and calls to make behind the scenes which is obviously not shared on our open forum.

Although life would be easier if we used people's real names we are happy with reasonable levels of anonymity, but refuse to let the site be used to attack racing administration without giving the root source of the correspondence we have been requested to post

If you cast your mind back to anonymity it was basically used to allow employees to voice their opinions without fear of repercussion.

One thing I would say is that I am sure we would all have hoped that racing people would work together for one common goal, that being for the betterment of racing.

After the Phumelela/Jooste saga

I used songs on the site as an illustration of what we could do in this regard eg "Let's Work Together",  "We can Work it Out" , "The Long and Winding road". My feeling is that the best way for racing to survive is to minimize our power struggles and egos and make SA horse racing i the priority.

I am now convinced that this will not happen at least in my lifetime as there are too many different agendas out there and power struggles continue.

As expected I received a call from Greg Bortz this morning and look forward to his response to the comments.

Good Punting

Racing people have never been good at keeping secrets.
