What an effort by the former Guineas winner, Double Superlative, to finish second after a lengthy layoff.

Not that it mattered today. But why was Double Sup. MR not adjusted down before todays race. Been rested more than 15 months. He has not really run to his 125 after the met run. Today maybe a 107 or so.

Cape racing with the big yard couplings playing games with Punter money i avoid, but just curious.

The layoff allowance does not apply to high class performers.

Chairman-owned 50/1 shot pumps the punters race 2

His popularity halved in 1 minute 30 seconds 😜

Not for me :cheer:

The winner, Oriental Charm, is from the family of Bouquet Garni.

Its third dam is, Daphne Donnelly and Daphne Donnelly third dam is Natalma. Natalma was the broodmare of legendary sire, Northern Dancer.

Well done if you found this one.
I’m just curious as to how one would narrow down a selection using this approach. If you look deep enough you will find champions and legends in the pedigree of every single runner on any given race-day.
You can even go down the rabbit hole all the way to the foundation Arabians.
7 degrees of separation or something like that.
This is akin to the clever marketing used by breeders.
Each to his own I suppose.

At most I will go to the third dam and that's if it was a Graded winner or was related to a Graded winner or was bred in the purple. I found often that at times they skip a generation then get a good one. This will mostly apply if I know it off memory.

For example, Soho Secret. This has produced, London News. From this family is, Covenant, Masterofmyfate, Promiseofmyheart, etc. If any of the horses are broodmares then I will try to remember their offspring.

This years July winner, Winchester Mansion, was related to Sand and Sea but I could trace it to, Waitara, Rodoille, Blue Tiger, etc.

This horse, Oriental Charm, I particularly knew its relation to Daphne Donnelly which had a reputation when its made its debut for Ferraris. Although it was not a champion I always had it in my memory because I knew it traced its root to Natalma who was the broodmare of Northen Dancer a legendary stallion and sire of sires.

Then you get Dancers Daughter. It has produced average runners but its sister, Imvula, has produced Rain In Holland and some above average horses. So now I will follow its family as it from a Grade 1 winning family.

One of the broodmares from far back Port Wine through Tawny Red has produced many Grade 1 winners and their daughters till this day are producing Graded winners.

Fashing of Yard Arm fame is another broodmare through her daughters has produced many winners over the years.

I have built up a book in my memory. If I remember then great. You always remember the good ones. I have followed pedigrees from the 1990s so the bet might be nostalgic sometimes as it bring back memories.

Note I also do look up pedigrees when I have time for future use.
