FINDINGS OF PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES


The National Horseracing Authority confirms the reported Prohibited Substances findings which is aligned with its decision to publish the status of all Prohibited Substance matters from the commencement of the new Racing Season.

Dexamethasone (Class 4) disclosed upon analysis of specimen No. B57268 taken from the horse ETIQUETTE after the running of the 5th race on 23 July 2023 at Hollywoodwoodbets Scottsville Racecourse. The Trainer responsible, Mr G B Puller elected to sign an Admission of Guilt and was fined an amount of R18 000.

Flunixin (Class 4) disclosed upon analysis of specimen No. E49555 taken from the horse HEATHCLIFF prior to the running of the 6th race (Port Elizabeth Gold Cup – Listed) on 28 July 2023 at Fairview Racecourse. The Trainer responsible Mr A C Greeff elected to sign an Admission of Guilt and was fined an amount of R60 000. When assessing the penalty, the status of the race, the finishing position, level of the substance and Mr Greeff’s previous record of a contravention of this nature, were considered.

Furthermore, in terms of Rule 72.3.2 both horses were disqualified from the respective races.

These findings have already been recorded in the NHA Racing Calendar.

Why can't these guilty as charged persons be banned for many years.Surely the fines are clearly not a deterrent and only serves to bolster the coffers of the authorities.

Do the roleplayers in this industry really care about reputation and guilt. Only Mr Bortz has proclaimed his stand on such issues.

Agree...I'd like the owners of these horses to speak up as it is their property being abused...unless done with the knowledge and complicity of the owner then one can understand silence...

And yet again, who cares about the punter whose money supposedly funds stakes and running the whole show (take-out)...horses disqualified and stakes go to the correct winners but punters who backed undoped horses have long lost their money...

A plague upon the cheats would be too kind a punishment...
