Cape Racing Implements New Local Race Condition

Cape Racing has implemented a new local race condition, which states as follows:
“Any horse, which is the subject of a pending or ongoing NHA investigation or inquiry at the time of final declarations, SHALL be precluded from accepting.”
This new rule has been lodged with the National Racing Bureau (NRB) and will become effective from Monday, September 18th, 2023.
Cape Racing’s Chairman Greg Bortz stated:
“As stated publicly on numerous occasions, Cape Racing is committed to upholding and preserving the reputation of horse racing in our country, and we believe that this local condition will contribute meaningfully in this regard. Cape Racing will continuously seek new avenues to protect our horses and enhance the sport of horse racing in South Africa. We will lead by example. “

Perhaps Bortz will show as much enthusiasm when the Cape Crawl skews form. As much enthusiasm for acting against Jocks who do not adhere to agreed usage of the track with NHA officials thereby stinging us punters in the process.

Don’t hold your breath. A common theme in all of the recent communications is the omission of the word “punter”.
Rather we have had statements such as “ my job is not to fix the tote” and “the tote is dead” or “non racing revenue”
Whilst the benevolence has to be admired, I have my doubts if this is a sustainable model.
The issue of the open bet is now a moot point given the bookies are funding racing, but let’s not forget who funds the bookies.

Alterego 100% and once you let the fox into the chicken coop no matter how much you try to muzzle it or manage its expectations its gonna eat chickens. So you either kill the fox, turn it vegan or have an endless supply of chickens to feed it. Either way the road ahead for you ex thriving chicken coop ecosystem is now paved with danger and uncertainty.
