Turffontein Inside Tuesday 26 September 2023 – Comments by David Thiselton

RACE 1

Preview: BIRTHRIGHT (5) is a big, promising sort who was very green second time out over 1700m and he should enjoy the step up in trip. KUDZU (3) is well bred and can still improve and although out of the sprinter to 1400m type Headstrong (Pivotal) his sire Flower Alley gives him a chance of staying the trip. PUERTO PLATA (1) disappointed last time but has run well over middle distances before. (David Thiselton 5-3-1)

RACE 2

Preview: BREATH OF MAGIC (3) went close over 1400m in a Workrider’s event last time and has a good draw with Gavin Lerena up. TRIP TO STATES (1) is drawn in pole and looks to be on the up. BOB (8) is by underrated sire William Longsword and is a half-brother to Twice Over gelding Blizzard, who twice in cape Town in just six starts, so he could do well here from a fair draw. FESTIVAL OF MAGIC (10) made a decent debut back in June but hasn’t run since and has a tough draw. BLACKBERRY BREEZE (7) is well bred being by Silvano out of the useful Gr 1-placed Berry Blaze (Danehill Dancer) and being a half-brother to useful Listed-winning stayer Bayberry and Gr 3 winner over a mile Clafoutis, but he does have a tough draw on debut, although he is described as a nice type by Alec Laird and a laid back sort and they will learn something from this run. AL AKHTAAR (6) is by Silvano and is a full brother to Summer Cup winner Zillzaal. (3-1-8-10-7-6)

RACE 3

PRESLEY (4) made a good debut over this trip and the form has been franked so he can go close, although he has a tricky draw of five out of eight. EMPRESS GAME (6) is knocking on the door and should be right there but has a tricky draw of six. INAFIX (3) is well drawn and can improve over this drop in trip having shown good pace over 1200m on debut. (David Thiselton 4-6-3)

RACE 4

Preview: SIBERIAN STEEL (1) only just failed last time and also only just failed off a one point higher mark when last running over course and distance so he is the one to beat from a plum draw with a 2,5kg claimer up. HAPPY ANALIA (6) only just failed last time and from pole position should go close. PENDRAGON (3) was beaten a length by Siberian Steel last time over this trip but is only half-a-kilogram better off if apprentice claims are ignored and is half-a-kilogram worse off if apprentice claims are considered. (David Thiselton 1-6-3)

RACE 5

I AM GIANT (2) is talented but from a wide draw it won’t be easy for this big horse. MOUNT PILATUS (4) has ability and from pole position should make a bold bid. RED BOMBER (3) has two wins in three starts and the form has worked out well but he has not raced since June. UNZEN (1) is the best in at the weights but this is his second run after a six month layoff and he has a tricky draw. CIRCLE OF GRACE (5) could earn. (David Thiselton 2-4-3-1-5)

RACE 6

CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT (4) goes for a fifth win in his last six starts and from a good draw can prevail. MK’S PRIDE (1) is well weighted and has a fine chance if able to overcome a tricky draw. DYCE (7) is full of speed and class but has had problems and returns from another extended layoff. BARD OF AVON (9) could be involved from a good draw with a featherweight. STAR COIN (3) is a classy sort who is being aimed at the Summer Cup but he has the speed to run well here fresh. (David Thiselton 4-1-7-9-3)

RACE 7

FORT LAUDERDALE (4) has ability and on pedigree should relish the step up in trip. RATTLE BAG (2) is well drawn and with a repeat of her penultimate start could go in despite having to contend with a six point higher mark. FUNKY MUSIC (1) has been in fine form for a new yard and is ideally distance suited but has a tricky draw and the handicapper might have caught up with him judged on his last run. (David Thiselton 4-2-1)

RACE 8

BREEZE OVER (4) only just failed last time over 2600m and is drawn well. AMERICAN GRAYSON (5) was only a quarter of a length behind Breeze Over and is 1kg better off but there is a reversal in draw fortunes. RULE BOOK (7) has ability and was off for a while and is lazy at home so should be cherry ripe now and has a shout. (David Thiselton 4-5-7)

Looks like a punters card and I think the HW challenge can be won so remember and use the BET option to qualify for bonus 😉
