Funny old game π€
1 year 7 months ago
We had a couple of classic payouts today due to very poor tote pools and suggested PA perms that barely meet the tote hold
The mad ones were
Two horse race where the fav was 1/16 and paid over R40 on the tote
Three horse race where the outsider paid only R1.00 a win and Betfair SP was 60/1

They will pay you out the R41 a win but to the maximum of the pool which was R248.
So no matter if you took 100 tote wins with your bookie you will only get paid out R248.
Shows just how pathetic our tote is.

They obviously have to safe guard themselves as in the smaller venues it's very easy to manipulate our tote.
Imagine today's scenario.......
The 1-16 shot wins but pays R41 on the tote.
R286 rand pool.Put R250 on the biggest outsider,or any other horse but the favourite on the tote and then put 1000 wins open bet with the bookies on the favourite.

Yes that Empress Club was a big race so the pools where big.
Those days you could cancel any bet no matter the amount.Nowadays you need special permission to cancel all bets over R500.
It went something like this....20 okes put R10 000 places on Empress Club,a few minutes before the off 19 of them cancel their bet. From R1 a place going into the pens to R5 a place when the race has finished.
