What to do with Jason Gates

Has he been harshly treated? Or does he need a refresher course?


Jockey J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he, as the rider of AFRAAD, misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race.
Jockey J Gates signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R8000 was imposed.

Jockey J Gates signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R16000 and a fourteen (14) day suspension was imposed. Suspension dates: 11 November 2023 to 24 November 2023.

All nonsense...if the crop hurts a horse then ban it completely....if it does not then why are the strikes limited.... funny though something that does endanger the life of a horse...vaccine for AHS....only carries a fine of R1000 if you are late in administering. It's all marketing perception that racing is not cruel...I wonder how enjoyable a horse finds a bit in its mouth .... ban the stick(for strikingly)or ban the fines but you can't have both

I know they are world's apart but Frankie has missed the Melbourne Cup due to whip bans at Ascot .

It's a rule I personally don't like as you always want the best ride on the horse you own or punt.

It's a bit of an ever ending story but would prefer a heavier fine or ban on non triers. 🤔

Just rid of the whip.
