PRESS RELEASE – RACING  

The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Gqeberha on Friday 02 February 2024, Jockey M Mjoka was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of CHARGE AHEAD, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to WESTERN JACK, BRIDGERTON, WILLIAM’S LEGACY and FUTURE AFRICA at the 1000m, in Race 2 at Fairview Racecourse on 12 January 2024.Jockey Mjoka pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.  

The Inquiry Board after considering the mitigating and aggravating factors, the degree of interference and the number of horses that were affected and giving careful consideration to Jockey Mjoka’s riding record, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of fourteen (14) days.Jockey Mjoka has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
