Plenty short priced favourites on the card, guess finding one at 5/1 or bigger will be something. Going to aim for the stars, but will settle for the top of the mountain, Sugar Mountain. Far from disgraced in the Met and has done fairly well over today's distance.

This is not Bass-Robinson's first raid to the Highveld where she has won, maybe this race before (open to correction though). From a decent draw, hoping he is there when the photos are taken.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Race 1. Springer overdue maiden win and is the one to beat.. Cherry Oh Baby should enjoy the step up in trip and could be anything. Happy Mo and Play with Fire regular placegetters. Cuetta the unknown quantity.
Race 2 Pistol Pete should win but price too skinny with 3 unraced from big yards. Of the raced runners Honorable Member should get closest at the weights.
Race 3 Almond Sea is the real deal and should continue her winning ways. Just Reckless next best. Only one unraced spook to consider.
Race 4 So Seductive is a strong first choice. Dangers are Secret Chord, Sacambaya and Quick Trip. The unraced filly should be respected.
race 5  Very open and I'm going the field. Humdinger best weighted but last two not great and she is better 1400m. Peach Daiquiry comes off a break but can win on best form. Lady of Power good recent form and possibly first choice. Very little between the rest at the weights. Sliver Hills good win last time but wide draw to overcome.
Race 6 Gimme A Nother skinny price but should win again. Silver Sanctuary should again follow her home and is a danger if staying better.
Race 7 Sandringham Summit tough draw, but should win again. Not much between Hotarubi, Purple Pitcher and William Iron Arm, although the latter is least exposed so may improve most. Storm Brasco and Barbaresco can be in the money.
Race 8 Princess Calla is weighted to win, but is an older mare now and may be feeling a long hard campaign. Dave the King ran a good race last time after gelding, and is a big danger. All of At My Command, Puerto Manzano, Cousin Casey, Cosmic Highway and Main Defender can win if she is found wanting.
Race 9  Dyce is clearly the one to beat. William Robertson is always a threat. Rulership is continuously improving. Captain Hindsight is never far off. The three low weighted fillies, Kiss me Captain, Allula's Star and Iphiko could give cheek.
Race 10 Looks  a 3 way contest between Judgement Day, Blue Quartz and Rassore Finale with In a Blue Moon a danger from plum draw.

My take on the day ....

R1: Springer has had a few chances, but imo looks a little moderate; conflicting reports about the de Kock filly, so I'll side with Happy Mo to improve leaps and bounds

R2: Pistol Pete impossible to oppose on form- the other debutantes gets 5 kgs, so any of them could upset if good enough

R3: Almond Sea impossible to oppose on form - interesting to compare the KZN juveniles with the Gauteng ones

R4: Imo So Seductive was disappointing in getting beat by Bob, but reservations were expressed before the race on her 'being not quite ready' - as such she remains the one to beat today; Quick Trip has had a few tries against stronger in the Cape and was very disappointing in her local debut when backed to odds-on, so may be worth another chance, while for me Secret Chord should have won already and the fact that he did not, is a worry against the 2 fillies

R5: Set weights for the females, but I think this is a tough race to narrow down, Humdinger best in, but at best over shorter, Silver Hills will need luck in running from the draw, Bonete never seems to get there in time, Good Queen Bess running on recently over shorter and does look well weighted (she does have Humdinger and Lady of Power stone cold at the weights) - and then we have Perfect Witness and Juliet Tango - could be wise to take the FIELD in exotics

R6: Obviously Gimme A Nother has them beat on form, but I would be a bit cautious over the extra 200m - Let's Go Now tries blinkers so could be an improver - let's see

R7: Again an obvious choice in Sandringham Summit - has drawn a bit wide, but imo is more likely to get the additional 200m than Gimme A Nother; main dangers imo William Iron Arm (last time was backed to beat SS) and Barbaresco (but he has an even worse draw than SS); Storm Brasco tries blinkers, but would need to improve a bit to beat Guy Gibson at the weights; Hotarubi imo vulnerable going the extra 200m

R8: Very interesting race; Princess Calla is another obvious choice on form, but I'm a bit worried that she is not shorter in the betting (returning from the Cape ?); this race will show how the 3-yr olds measure up to the older horses; Dave The King and Cousin Casey are drawn wide and anyway would need the Princess to run below form to threaten, while I think Puerto Manzano is for sure being prepped for the Champions Challenge - so I think either bank the Ptrincess or go wide

R9: Another case of a horse returning from the Cape; Dyce imo just have to produce his usual form to beat these; if he does not, there are a few that can take advantage; Captain Hindsight is very well weighted so could be one to give cheek

R10: Looks a 3-horse contest, Judgement Day and Blue Quartz have fair draws, while Rossore Finale has a double-figure draw to contend with - for me I do fancy RF at this track and for a stable in hot form

Enjoy
