Wonder what percentage of the cost of racing is met by the punter... If the industry costs billions to run and generates billions and the shortfall is say 100m... Yet we remain the common folk

......HW and co are in the ultimate driving seat..... as the more they plow in.....the more they get out....they are by far the biggest winners as they are in total control of the product from the juice and even then including the delivery system....

The only winners in horseracing are the bookmakers, breeders, trainers, jockeys and those connected to them.
Learnt that owners fund the industry to allow for the above to make a decent living at your expense.
As far as fees go,
I was paying R12500 a month less than a decade ago.
Doesnt take into account the vet bill or nomination fees for bigger races if you crack a above average horse.
But you choose to own a horse as it's a passion rather than to make money.
As far as betting establishments and online gambling goes.
I've never seen it being shoved down your throat as it is now.
Every advert on TV or on social media is promoting HW, Betway, WSB, Tsogo or another site.
I think this is a problem in itself.
You can't promote cigarettes but can promote a even more dangerous and harmful game that can destroy lives?
Bit off topic but somebody needs to have a look at how much money these betting establishments are making daily off the legal scam called Aviator.
There's a Aviator addiction pandemic on the rise in Africa and mostly linked to people between ages of 18-23.
Scary.

And today 11 January 2025, despite all the efforts of the teams (on 240) and what I was exposed to, like on this forum...it was manure for me...
All the elegant people with their selfies were missing...
People (of which there were very few) scurried to get completed with Turffontein.
Cape coverage was poor (not from the commentating team, but from the coverage/production etc...Did I see Vicky, or CBR, or any trainers barring JS in the early race?
No, perhaps it was my fault, or perhaps they did not broadcast it. I saw MdK early on...
Like I said earlier...the usuals tried their utmost, but its difficult to force feed people when they can see for themselves. I didn't hear jockey comments beyond the first few races...in fact, the same with trainers.
Were there owners at either of the racecourses today...?
This probably sums up my feelings for a 19 race bonanza that IMO did not deliver.
No wonder I have apathy. I cannot speak for other people.

I think the problem is that with the deal between the Cape and 4Racing expired (they're now on a month to month) the production has now changed where they are only really giving us the race and the full production is now on Gallop.

As you all know I have been in racing all my life, and I am beginning to feel like Garrick! Brilliant summing up of what we have today. I have no interest in going racing except to see the horses in the flesh. I love the animal. The food is of no interest as i can have a superior meal at any eatery of my choice and pay less. The racing takes an eternity, at least 35 min between races is ludicrous. I then watch flagrant disregard for the rules in most races. And my trip to the races and home is dangerous and arduous than riding on long grass ??The information I receive on course is no different from the information I have gleaned by studying the race card before the meeting. Sorry, but the pundits do not give me any indication of horses that can or CANNOT win. In their opinion everything is worth including. And always " in my opinion ". So it is mundane and banal and has no chance of attracting any new clients. Wake up!!! Or as they say in the mother tongue SKRIK WAKKER MENSE.

4 months 3 weeks agoAfter years of watching gallop and KZN racing online and it continually buffering from overseas (seemingly fine watched in SA) I now don't watch live racing and wait until uploaded to YouTubeI think the problem is that with the deal between the Cape and 4Racing expired (they're now on a month to month) the production has now changed where they are only really giving us the race and the full production is now on Gallop.
4racing's SA Clean feed works much better from Scotland

SA Clean feed has always given problems once the second person starts streaming...sound is/was also lower volume...It is also inconsistent (unattended during toilet breaks)
Nothing from the fairest Cape today...
