PRESS RELEASE - RACING INQUIRY – JOCKEY K MATSUNYANE
5 months 1 day ago
Are they having a giraffe?
The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 14 January 2025, Jockey K Matsunyane was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M in Appendix E on the use of the crop). The particulars being that he misused his crop by striking PURPLE PITCHER more than twelve times (14), which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race, in Race 8, The Summer Cup (Grade 1), on 30 November 2024.
Jockey K Matsunyane pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the charge.
The Inquiry Board, after considering the evidence, and taking the Grade 1 status of the race into account, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of fourteen (14) days and a fine of R64 000 (sixty-four thousand rand).
Jockey K Matsunyane was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.

This shows the integrity of the NHA...they enforce unscientific rules for optics and money in their coffers...have they ever given a fine of this magnitude to a jockey who rides dangerously?...You see dangerous rides weekly but they don't warrant such massive fines...so are they trying to protect the horse and rider or make bank to pay for the massive legal fees they accrue annually....stop dangerous riding that causes punters to lose money ...as an aside where is their ruling on Van Niekerk not following riding instructions on Zeus in a graded race?....is that not an important optic?...horse being ridden like a sprinter in a staying race? Did punters not lose money due to that ride and also the owners?...

Re: PRESS RELEASE - RACING INQUIRY – JOCKEY K MATSUNYANE
5 months 20 hours agoOr the horses that were maimed in PE a few years back...or horses that are struck with the lead rope that is attached to the bridle at times.
And of course...those last two "blows" were more violent than the first 12, and were premeditated...
I'd like to ask how many people are able to count the number of crop strikes without use of a slow motion replay...but it is expected of a jockey in the heat of a race, a Grade 1, no less, where his BP and pulse rate must have been off the charts...
Bunch of Idiots...not only for the exorbitant amount (give the fine up front per count over 12 so that everyone understands the consequences)
but also for penalizing him twice, by removing his income for a period of 14 days.
I wrote this slowly...because I know some people cannot read fast...

• The R64000 and suspension given to KM is already being appealed and Bloomberg had already stated that this will go to the High Court should the appeal fail at the kangaroo court. More seven figure legal costs on the horizon and in circumstances that are already clear they will lose.

....remember the Robert Khathi 4 month ban incident about a year ago.....jock won his case on appeal in the supreme court and his ""crime" was not stick related but trying to get the better of an awkward ride
Hubris ( 'pride, insolence, outrage'), or less describes a personality quality of extreme or excessive pride [2] or dangerous overconfidence and complacency , [3] often in combination with (or synonymous with) arrogance. [
,,,,,,does this fit with anyone we may know.....

When a person feels a need to show their authority, it's because the reality is they have no authority worthy of respect...
